D. Newton picks Ealy based on Kiper & McShay's latest mock, & G-man's thinking.

Further proof that this poo is all speculation.  One thing about it though, if there is a run on receivers, then Ealy could happen.

Gettleman also said he wouldn't reach for a player, meaning he wouldn't use a first-round pick on a player the Panthers have rated as a second-rounder.

He also said he would take the best player available, suggesting he would take a cornerback, pass-rushing end or even another defensive tackle -- Carolina used its top two picks on defensive tackles last season -- if that is how the board fell.

So based on the Kiper Jr. and McShay mock, I'm going with Missouri defensive endKony Ealy at No. 28 as insurance in case the Panthers can't get a long-term deal with Greg Hardy. Or simply because he adds another weapon to the league's second-ranked defense.

That would be a shot heard around the NFL (especially in Hardy's ears).

IF it happens, I am not going to belabor it in my mind, though I would almost say we would have to get a WR and OT in the second and third round if we want to keep a semblance of balance and defenses honest.

If that happened I could still see us going OT in both rounds 2 and 3 though.   I wouldn't know what to say for our WR corps, except for maybe Rice and Holmes.  Maybe a Hardy trade for a few picks.

I still have a Denarius Moore trade in the back of my mind...well, maybe not quite the back.

Basically, we'd be in a pickle of sorts, but I'm sure G-man would create a plan---at least in the long term (as in focusing on WR in 2015). Who the hell knows?

You can't forget about your franchise player. It was said this AM on the radio. We neglected our franchise player in FA by letting every receiver on the team walk. We started making up for it with guys who have ability but are not necessarily going to be big time difference makers.

But you can't neglect Cam in this draft by not adding weapons. I really have a hard time thinking that 7 WRs and 5-6 OTs are going in the first. Personally, I think someone is going to be there for us to take. I think Martin is going really high in all of these mocks. Not everyone is going to take a tackle in the first round.

This part I could go with...

Thursday night's mock had Carolina taking Tennessee offensive tackle Ja'Wuan James in the second round at No. 60 and North Dakota State tackle Billy Turner in the third round at No. 92.

    • summary: "let's talk about your draft, what did you think about Freeling" Dan:   guys with a huge upside, can come in and compete to start.  High ceiling "he does what for your offense?" Dan:   it's hard to find left tackles, guys that big and athletic.  We have Icky coming off an injury, we signed Walker, I believe your offensive line can never be too strong.  If we're going to win the game, it's gotta be up front on both sides of the ball, so we make a point of emphasis on making both sides of the front as strong as possible. "how many mocks did you see Monro falling to you." Not many times, left tackles are gonna go a lot earlier than when we took him.  We want to add the best player, in free agency or the draft"  that's our philosophy, to get the best players possible. "Hunter and Brazzell." Dan:  we followed the board.  Lee we felt very highly of him , super strong.  Brazzel so flexible and loose, can open the verticle.  Will Lee we held in high regard. "you take a look at your receiver room, Coker, my goodness, your offensive rookie of the year in Tet.  Lost Rico, but there is Jonathan Brooks. " Brooks coming off two knee injuries, he worked his way back, looking great, fully healthy, will help in pass and run game.  Icky, not sure when he's coming back but we're excited about both "plan on extending Bryce" we'll keep talking, will keep internally.  We believe in him, has such a great grasp of Canales and offense, has improved every year. "he's clearly come back from the benching, the arrow is trending up, where does he feel" Bryce knows where we stand with him, when and if a deal gets done, he knows we feel great with him, we'll get something done at the right time. "if this a prove it situation?" everyone in the building has to prove it, has to earn it. Tmac was everything we wanted, his work ethic, he's so big and talented, but he puts the work in, and is a great teammate. "your level of expectation, the building's level of expectation for 2026 "our goal is to win the division every year, we know we have to earn it.  we have to put the work in every day, proving it on the practice field, and our  guys know that." "schedule" we haven't opened at home in 2 or 3 years.  We love prime time games, hope we get some "
    • this one is gold:     Bryce has a cult inside the Panthers fanbase that has truly developed some NPC hivemind. I'll never understand how he's captured the true essence of the casual fan like that.
