Realistic Expectations for Kelvin Benjamin This Season

Recommended Posts

All I expect is hard work and to see him progress throughout the season. If I see improvement, then I don't care a lot about his year 1 stats, I'm excited for this guys future.

this. KB is a pretty raw prospect. The scouting report comparing KB to Plaxico Burress (6-5/226) was posted on here. Plaxico only had 273 yds and zero TD as a rookie (and he was 23 years old as a rookie and was selected #8 overall after having back-to-back 1,000 yd seasons for Nick Saban's Michigan State teams).

Those 273 yds Plaxico had were #3 on the Steelers that year behind Hines Ward (672) and WR Bobby Shaw (also 672).

The first game of his rookie season was Plaxico's best: 77 yds on 4 catches vs the 2000 Ravens D. Plaxico had at least 1 catch in each of the first 10 games of his rookie season, then no catches after that (played 12 games total, must have been injured the other 4 games)

The engine that drove that Steelers offense that year was Jerome Bettis (1,341 yds) and their QB was Kordell Stewart. Being that we have much much greater QB (Kordell only completed 52.2% of his passes with a 73.6 QB rating that year while Cam last year completed 61.7% with a 88.8 QB rating), a reasonable expectation for KB would be 500-600 yds (heck Saints WR Kenny Stills had 641 yrs as a rookie last season, #3 on their team...and he was a 5th Round pick)

It is year two and year three we should expect 900-1000 yds from KB. In year two, Plaxico had 1,008 yds. In year three, Plaxico had 1,325...and that was with Kordell Stewart as his QB in year 2 and Tommy Maddox as his QB in year 3

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
