4th Round - Carolina selects Tre Boston, S, UNC

S is still definitely a position we need and he appears to have traits we want in a S. Very few on here like Roman Harper the player, plenty of people shat on Decoud as well. Now we're good there? We'll see how Godfrey comes back but none of those guys are our long term players at safety. Hopefully Lester keeps getting better. This is our attitude guy and a leader back there that we lost with Mitchell and Munnerlyn. Hope he can get coached up and find a place starting for us one day. He'll have plenty of old guys to help him along and he'll be in a great spot to succeed with the rest of the defense in front of him.

Mean while all the good lts and cbs are gone. wtf it's not that easy to find a good cb on the streets we got lucky with Melvin white

There is only one CB left I would be glad to get. Lavelle Westbrooks from Georgia Southern. Westbrooks was there with Phillip Gaines, Walt Aikens and Pierre Desir for overlooked CBs at the end of 2013. In the past 2 to 3 months people spotted Gaines, Aikens and Desir, but they are still sleeping on Westbrooks.

As for safeties, there is Jonathan Dowling of Western Kentucky, and Ed Reynolds of Stanford that I would be happy with.

The way this draft is going I wouldn't be shocked if the Panthers select a punter, kicker, and another special teams gunner with their last 3 picks.

This is a special teams pick at best. Not going to see any kind of starting DB position in the NFL.

Panthers don't draft for need or bpa. They are drafting potential, depth, and special teams. Worst off-season ever.

You take a WR you could have gotten in the 2nd round. You take a DE because he has amazing value since he fell, but that amazing value is going to the back of the line. Probably will see the field very little in the next 2 seasons. You then take a guard who will find himself at the back of the line for guards and will never see the field for the next 2-3 seasons. Then you take a special teams player.

We have 53 roster spots and have need at several starting spots. Are we going to carry 5 guards and 5 DEs and toss in some extra spots for special teams players? Do the math front office. You have just wasted the Panthers 2014 draft. These draft picks or some you made last year are going to be up for cuts in the preseason. Definite fail.

Long will see the field plenty. On passing downs we will have CJ, Kraken, and Ealy all rushing passer and any one of them will line up inside.

Not to mention the business sense that pick made

This old tweet that Voth dug up from Jones sums up a lot about Tre for me. Wants to make plays, sometimes to the detriment of making needed plays.

Heck of a play by Tre Boston... Makes no attempt to tackle the WR and instead goes straight for the strip.

Did you dig up any tweets about all the picks, tackles, and deflections he did have?

Gman is trying to hit a homerun on every pick instead of bunting and advancing a runner to 3rd.  hope it doesnt bite him in the ass.  There are very few diamonds in the rough, sometimes its best to take the obvious safe pick.

    • If Reich or Fitterer were still around I think the need to extend Young because of what he cost would be stronger.  And yeah Morgan was Fit's right hand when the call was made but there an equal chance that Dan will see it as a chance to move on from Fit and shake off that stink. Holding out some hope that 3 years and clear eyes will allow for an honest appraisal that Young just aint the guy
    • As far as elite/elevate talent QB’s It’s Allen Mahomes Jackson and Burrow that’s it.  Then we have tiers and those can be debated all day Dak is a good QB but I know this board would want him out of Charlotte if he was the QB here. 2 playoff wins in 10 years. Justin Herbert no playoff wins. Threw 4 interceptions in last years playoff game. 23 TD passes last year. 20 the year below and 25 the year before that. This board loves stats without context and these stats aren’t saying they’re much above complimentary  Kyler Murray isn’t good. I’m not sure how he made this list.  Caleb Williams, Trevor Lawrence both benefiting from some real good offensive coaches right now. They’re both complimentary pieces until proven otherwise  I like Jordan Love. Always have. I wanted to draft him but he isn’t a superstar.  CJ Stroud hasn’t been much better than Bryce after his rookie season. After that Bears game year 2 his numbers very similar to Bryce I will say I think Drake Maye is well on his way to becoming the next top tier QB if I had to pick one from this entire list. I’d also say Baker Mayfield is a damn good QB and I’d take him over most of those guys not in the elite category  Now if you want to debate tools and which QB’s possess tools to put them in higher tiers that’s a completely different discussion. Most QB’s on your main list all have those physical tools that will keep you thinking he’ll become the next top tier QB. They’ll sprinkle in a “wow” play or two a game. Bryce will never look that way. Young’s game at its peak will physically always look different and I think that’s where most people struggle when it comes to seeing how Young’s can be successful in the league  All QB’s need a team around them. I think the Bills are failing Josh Allen much like the Panthers did Cam. Beane and McDermott using same blueprint with Bills team. Josh Allen hasn’t had much in terms of WR’s and it’s ultimately costing them when it matters the most
