Amazing draft

It really is amazing that a guy who spent the last 20 or so years building a reputation as an excellent evaluator of NFL talent, & managed to patch together a team that went 12-4 using those afore mentioned evaluation skills, would not come to the same conclusions as a bunch of people on an internet messege board...

I don't want to pile onto the "let's hate on Gettleman bandwagon", but, there's some flaws to your argument.

When we went through our first two seasons with Ron Rivera, and Ron was as close as possible to being fired, the argument went from "Ron interviewed with a lot of teams for the head coaching job, we know he has what it takes!" to "well, maybe those other teams seen something and passed a poo ton of times".

That's where we are with Gettleman.

Sure, he spent his time as a "grinder" or whatever the fug they called him, but every time he interviewed for a GM job, when he did sniff an interview, he was turned away for someone else. Maybe there's a reason for that? I wasn't in the interviews, I don't know. But, it's possible that other teams thought he doesn't have the chops to be a real NFL GM.

Now sure, we went 12-4 in his first season as GM. Which is awesome. But, the question I've been asking myself is, how much of that was Cam and Kuechly? Without two of the best players in the NFL at their position, what would our record have been? We're one injury away from either of those guys to having a top 5 pick next year, and that's not a good thing.

    • Was at the game and NYCFC honestly outplayed CLT the whole way.  Khalina and Zaha carried the team.  Zaha's wife on IG making it sound like he's gone come July. They're going to have to pay him or find a big time replacement because the team looks like pretty lost without him.
    • No one's saying LaMelo has no blame we're responding to you acting like he's the reason they lost. The scapegoating and blaming the teams woes on his personality is where it's like Cam Newton all over again. It was a failure on multiple fronts and primarily Lee's. Dude said ON AIR pregame that they had to protect the paint and if that was his gameplan going in he couldn't have botched it more. As the commentators said Ball's a rhythm guy and Orlando was preventing him for getting any kind of flow going. I'm a normie watching on TV and said they needed to bait them into fouling to combat that. They didn't even try until the 2nd half when it was too late. I think it's fair to expect the star to overcome whatever but LaMelo was not the problem in that game and he's not what is holding the team back. He's the only reason they're flirting with being a great team. I kinda put the center play on Lee too. Moose is great until he's up against a big who can body him. We've always known that and that's what Kalkbrenner is for. I don't know if it would have changed much but Kalkbrenner should have had more minutes than him.  And moving forward with the center position, I just think it's the time to trade Diabate while his stock's high and that's not an indictment of his game. He's like an evolved combination of Biyombo and PJ. He's a great rim protector and the strength issue is just what you're going to have to deal with if you want that. But Kalkbrenner is perfectly capable of protecting the rim and we gotta get away from the undersized centers or it'll always be a problem for us.
    • Honestly its why that Jalen Coker grab was a big deal.  I'd been warming up to the idea of a sadiq pick and was adamantly against a receiver...but this altered my train of thought.  I mean For instance, Cade Otton signed for 3 yr 30 mil contract...thats not dramatically different than the rookie payscale for #19 (4 year 20 mil with 5th year option), however you KNOW otton is decent...no clue if Sadiq will be anything.
