Cam Newton BELIEVES in the USMNT

Care to bet your house on it? Cuz this is NOT the best USMNT of all time.

Portugal has injuries but half that squad still possesses more talent than the entire US squad combined. Ronaldo is the key from this being a blow out or a close loss.

Germany... don't even make me laugh. You guys have zero chance against them. They're a favorite to win it all.

I might give you guys Ghana but they're inside The USA's head.

Well, I own a condo, but sure I'll bet it. This team is more talented than the 02 team, and it's playing in better cohesion than any US team in recent memory. The US team has one of the best goalkeeper collections in the world. The back needs chemistry, but has as much talent as any back line the US has had. The midfield as a whole can compete with any midfield in the cup. The attack, dependent upon Altidore's consitency (if he's in WCQ form, we're good), has a lot of potential, especially with the uprise of Aron Johannsson who can take the penny off at any time and come in and give a spark with his passing ability and his ability in the air (not quite the finisher that we want yet, but he'll get there). Klinsman didn't pick Donovan because of Donovan's sabbatical during the qualifyers, and I respect him for that. You're either with us the whole way or not with us at all.

Klinnsman has also picked a slew of youngsters that he has no intention to play, just to look around and take in the scenery because they are the guys he's putting his money on for 2018 (Julian Green, for example).

I don't disagree with you on Portugal completely, read my post..all I said was "who knows." I also don't disagree with you on Germany, once again read my post. I do, however, believe that if Pepe and Meireles in particular are playing 60 or 70 minutes coming off of injuries, that exposes the team. Ronaldo at 50% is still better than any player we've got, though I'll give you that.

I do disagree with you on Ghana, who is Klinsmann's public enemy #1. Klinnsman's biggest up on Bob Bradley as a coach is his ability to teach discipline and mental toughness, along with strategy. That's what it's going to take to beat Ghana because I can tell you flat out they sure as hell aren't more talented than the USMNT.

Also, who's "you guys"? Are you not American? If you aren't disregard the next line, but if you are and you aren't cheering for the US, I refuse to talk to you any more.

yeah this made me think. With cam's size, athleticism, speed, strength, etc he would be a wall on the back line. Impossible to get around

i work with someone from south america, and a week or two ago i was telling him the reason why the USA doesnt do well in soccer and it is because it is between the 4th and 8th most popular sport in our country.  although he didnt want to hear it, i suggested that if soccer was as popular as football or basketball in this country, our top athletes would be playing that instead of football or basketball as little children and we would dominate the sport.  But instead, we have 3rd tier athletes representing us in the World Cup.  It isnt because we lack the athletes, we lack the enthusiasm of the sport as a whole.

coincidentally i was reading a yahoo article this morning suggesting the same thing but just creating a team using only NFL players:

I believe that America as a whole still doesn't give a sh1t about soccer no matter how much they hype it.

I don't know what USMNT is, and I don't care. Sorry.

We play football with our hands here in 'Murka. Deal with it.

    • You joke, but it can always be worse. He might walk with a limp or need assistance. Different sport, but Lonzo Ball couldn't even walk up steps a year after his injury.
    • I mean... a lot of the information that could've helped set better expectations has always been out there: There was no RB on the team under contract for the 2025 - 2026 season except for Miles Sanders. The team did not have a second round pick going into the 2025 season due to the trade for Young. Chuba's extension did not happen until the beginning of November. Jonathon Brooks was the clear RB1 in the class with a massive gap between RB1 & RB2. Example: Dane Brugler had Brooks as RB1, overall #48; Blake Corum was RB2, #81 overall. The Giants held pick #47 and had just lost Saquon Barkley to the Eagles in free agency. They were going to take Brooks had the Panthers not jumped in front of them. So if we're framing things with that context: Chuba was expected to be RB1 Miles (at the time) was RB2 Brooks was essentially RB3, stashed for rehab in 2024 with a long runway. The original injury occurred Nov 2023 while the re-injury occurred December 2024. That is right in the high-risk window for recurrence, especially in explosive athletes. The fact that it also happened on a non-contact play suggests possible biomechanical issues such as muscle imbalance, rather than a failed surgery (or bad decision-making).   NFL teams invest heavily in medically vetting prospects. If there had been a clear red flag in imaging or recovery markers, the team is going to find it. This sucks and the Panthers have sucked, yes, but this wasn't blind optimism or malpractice by the front office. It was a calculated decision based on the roster, draft capital, positional scarcity, etc.
    • Yep, but they can all rotate with Brown, Brown and Robinson (sounds like a law firm). Can't continue to have Derrick Brown out there for 90+ percent of the defensive snaps. An injury was bound to happen.
