Don't give up on him yet.

WOW!!

The ballhandling the defense the versatility the work ethic and the athletic ability. He's still very young and all he needs is a jumper.

I'm still fully behind the MKG project.

without any kind of a jump shot, teams will double off of him religiously.  He has to be able to hit the open shot.  He cant.  Its not his fault.  its just not in his skill set.  You have to be able to do more then defend to be successful in this league.

I like MKG, I really really do. His defense and slashing is wonderful, and he is a genuine nice high character dude. However, I'm very torn on what I want to happen to him from a basketball perspective. I don't want to be like Sacramento and give up on a player that has a chance to be special. But he needs a serviceable 15-25 foot jump shot to be a great player in this league. I'm not giving up on him yet, he at least deserves to ride out his rookie deal before we let him go imo.

This kid is the truth don't let 1 skill set detour you from this talented young player. He will develop this skill and there will be no stopping him.

as you can see from that video, MKG is at his best on a break and/or slashing to the basket.  It also appears he makes more jumpers when hes off balance.  IMO MKG isnt being used correctly.  Charlottes has been spacing everyon eout to make room for Big Al, this allows defenders to double off MKG and force him to shoot jumpers.  They need to have MKG slashing to the basket when Big Al is in the paint etc.  Dont keep MKG out away from the basket, keep him near it and he will succeed.

Id love to see him have take that playoff game performance and say this is who I am and just have that agressive nature to drive to the basket collapsing the defense on layups, floaters or kickouts..of course assuming we get shooters.

He is too timid and unselfish which takes him out the game imo.

    • The good news is that we are pretty uniquely well established to address all of our needs this season. We have $14m real cap space, and something like $40m in trade deadline cap space. Not sure exactly how that works out. But, we have the room to absorb any bad contracts. With recent rule changes regarding retention, that went into effect this season, we now have a huge advantage in the trade market.  On top of that, while we do have obvious needs, we also have a glut of talent in certain areas that we struggle to find ice time for. We are over-stocked on scrappy talented lil-guys, strong defensively sound 3rd liners and shutdown left shot dmen. Whether it's a package or separate deals, idk. But, one of each from Stank/Blake/Nads, Erob/Carrier/KK/Jank, and Walker/Nystrom; throw in some 1st round picks (and frankly any other prospects they want) and we should be able to come out with a 1b to pair with Bussi and either a 2c with size or a 2c and size.   TL/DR We got the money, you got the stuff?
    • I don’t  think 6’4 was ever considered small or undersized. Baby hands tho, yes that was his thing That’s an interesting idea, like an optical illusion? Sounds like you have personal experience with this!
    • in the 25' draft the Carolina Panthers had hired Brandt Tillis someone who actually understood how to build a successful team & build through the draft .  this team was yes mismanaged for years prior to Brandt Tillis joining the team in 25' & rarely done anything right in the draft outside occaionaly getting lucky on an UDFA such as Jalen Coker who's dad coincidentally happened to be a huge Carolina Panthers fan, hint hint  ...just saying
