D.Williams...props to a good guy...on and off the field

The only photo I see is poor quality but it appears to be an older guy in the uniform -   of retired age.  Maybe he dressed up for the 4th to go to a reunion or something - old vets rarely remember all the rules of where what medal goes - it was a bitch remembering when on active duty for me and I had few to display.

He's either not quite with it completely or he likes  getting respect for something he didn't do.

so many precedents have been set that its just "ok" in his mind to live off of other people. He is entitled to it?

straight insane, no concept of earning for a living.

It's tough to tell from the photo. I can see a Silver Star and he's an E-9. There aren't that many E-9's around and he's black so that really narrows down the list. I don't see why anyone would fake that of all ranks.

Comments I saw on FB pointed out that 1) he would never be wearing his cover indoors 2) he was wearing medals on that uniform that you wouldn't be wearing and 3) he was sitting with his leg crossed in his dress blues which is a no-no.

I'm not an expert on the subject matter, but there were some pretty specific comments in the FB post that sounded credible to me and suggested the guy must be a phony.

Sitting with your legs crossed doesn't matter and there are plenty of E-9's. I can't see the medals well enough to really determine but there are some serious inconsistencies.

Also, why wear your Dress Blue Alpha uniform on a flight? They're not real comfortable with the thick wool and the rigide, high neck. Add the clinging of the medals and it makes more sense to dress in your Dress Blue Delta uniform and change.

Just echoing what I read, apparently you're not supposed to sit that way in your alphas. Folks were also questioning why he was traveling in them.

DWill gets a lot of criticism mainly because of his contract.

But he's a great person and a very nice man.  I'm glad he's a Panther.  I'd rather him get a contract like he got and give it back to the community then some buttmunch like Manziel blowing it on  getting skii'd up in some dirty bar bathroom that probably has a gloryhole in it.

dude looked a little hokey to me as well, from posturing to the cover

and anyway i love deangelo and i'm not knocking him but i think it came across as an attention grab. why not just quietly offer the seat instead of posting about what a classy guy you are?

Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Veteran chiming in here....

While I see the legitimate concerns of him 1) wearing it in the first place 2) wearing his cover indoors 3) crossing his legs

Based on the photo, he's just a salty old dog, I mean he may have retired 20 years ago, therefor he gives zero fugs for regulations.

We can rush to judgment all we want but he may be on his way to a funeral, a wedding, a VFW function or just wants to fly in style. Chesty kept his hands in his pockets and this dude could be as old as Chesty.

I know a lot of people here have probably met DWill...all I can say is he was very nice to my little brother who has autism and gave him a wonderful personalized autograph.

He didn't seem like he lacked humility to me.

And to be quite honest, old salty vets really don't care about wearing their covers indoors. I would give the old man the benefit of the doubt before trying to slay an old dude on the internet. Enjoy what Dwill did for what it is.

Yeah. Having Never served this looks like an old bastard wearing his uniform as he likes. Is his commanding Sgt. gonna give him crap? Is some current marine gonna call him out?

Much better put than I did.

    • Sure it does, maybe not every position and not every draft.  You have to admit the hit rate goes down the further in the draft you get.  Would you more readily find a generational talent at the #2 pick or #19 pick?  High picks are considered "busts" if they doesn't pan out, whereas guys drafted later don't have that level of scrutiny upon them.  Different expectation levels.  If Styles does indeed go #2, I already listed the rarefied air that he would be in.  Maybe he doesn't set the League on fire, but my gut feeling is he does.  Again, you don't take an off-ball LB #2 if he is just a 'really good' player.
    • To illustrate my point, I watched (and commented on the Huddle) that Rozeboom would often wait a full second (or close to it) before taking his first step.  I assume that he probably had issues with false steps, a faulty practice that can take an ILB out of the gap completely.  Watch Luke and you see a step with the snap, and rarely was it a false step.  Rozeboom may have had 100 tackles (speculating) but initial contact was 2-3 yards on the defensive side of the ball.  Luke's 100 tackles were made 1-2 yards from the LOS.  Over the course of a year, Luke was much more productive (more fumbles, fewer long gainers, more OL penalties, fewer first downs, etc) that Rozeboom, but on the stat sheet, they both had 100 tackles.  In fact, Rozeboom's inefficiency kept him on the field more (more first downs, fewer OL penalties, turnovers, and punts) so he should have MORE tackles.   I would like to see stats that break down those things.   For example again, Josh Norman was slow--4.68 or so at CB.  However, his anticipation speed was incredible.  He made as many plays as a 4.4 CB.  I had one coach (college--later became the head coach at WCU) tell me that slower players have to use their brains more to still be around.  Elite athletes can just get by on their physical superiority.  He added, "Rarely does a football player run full speed.  Most of the time, they are not, so the 40 time is misleading stat.  Smart players overcome shortcomings--when the elite athlete becomes average (slows with age, advances in level of competition) they struggle against smarter (football IQ) competition.
    • Obviously tongue in cheek hyperbole. But we do not need a first round RB to compete for a championship. We need intelligent roster building. That to me is the complete opposite of intelligent roster building because it is a prime resource at a devalued plug and play position when we have needs across the defense.
