Where are the action movies?

Hollywood has gotten so artsy you don't see as many great action movies. Sure there are action movies, but they don't get the big names and funding. I saw Battleship on HBO, it was ok. Not great but ok.

What you end up with is all the old farts from the golden age of action movies doing B movies like The Expendables and Red.

I'd just love some new ideas. No remakes, no comic books. Get me something fresh.

Skyfall, Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained, Hurt Locker, True Grit

I just think you see a lot of cross-genre stuff these days - tons of action comedies. Lots of suspense/thriller, and sme of the ones above are debatable as to which genre they fall under (the Tarantino ones really).

There doesn't seem to be too many go to action actors anymore, wherein lies your problem IMO. Either they can't act, aren't a big name, make bad movies, or some other issue.

Older guys

The Rock (not a huge acting name obviously)

Jason Statham (not A list or going to sell tickets)

Will Smith (doesn't make enough movies/makes bad ones)

Mark Wahlberg (It's Marky Mark)

Vin Diesel (?)

Younger, potential guys

Ryan Gosling (too artsy/"pretty" maybe?)

Channing Tatum (the best chance to be the guy, but he's interested in all genres)

Taylor Klitsch (bad movies, B List)

Charlie Hunnam (I liked Pacific Rim, but he's not a big big name yet outside of SOA)

Michael B. Jordan (Too young right now, but I like him)

    • Jack Roslovic: Only 2 other UFA, right-handed centers age 28 or under had more points (39) than him- Sam Bennett (51) and Pius Suter (46). There were 4 other centers age 33 and older who scored more: Gireaux (37), Marchand (37), Tavares (34), Granlund (33).  Unless the Canes go old, if they let Jack walk, they won't get a center who scored more.  Thoughts?
    • nope     This is why we come back every year.  Hope springs eternal
    • It's important to differentiate criticism and hate. I can't speak for that individual you quoted. But most people who have been critical of the Tepper's have been so because both of them have made it a point to put themselves front and center and in the middle of team operations and we have been largely horrific more often than not as a result. If people are making derogatory remarks about her that should be met with an appropriate response but if people are being defensive just because she's being criticized all I can say is people should get used to it. Both her and David would have been getting absolutely skewered by the media and the fans if this were a big market franchise. The Lakers are finally being sold off after years and years of public criticism of Jeannie Buss and even though I'm the furthest you could go from being a Lakers fan just about anyone you could meet who is familiar with the NBA would say the criticism was certainly valid.
