Let's talk special teams

Okay...coach Richard Rodgers has done a nice job with this unit......now he has some different things to consider for 2014. Gano and Norman are the strengths and should continue to be so. Getting Colin Jones back retains a solid player for him....now the question. This team needs decent field position with the offense they run and can't afford to constantly be pinned back. So take your pick...Barner and Pilares seem to be the guys.....maybe give brown, underwood or whom a try? Ginn at least was a threat to break one back there, but I doubt Barner or Pilares can ever provide that. Over looked, but important aspect of the game....one outstanding return can turn any game on a dime...so what does the all mighty huddle thinks will be the answer.

I must say. Most ST threads are a little lame in their scope and theme. You sir have asked great questions and delivered succinct content. With that said I think we have many options and the guy returning kicks will change frequently until week 7. Then I believe we'll settle on someone. I'm thinking Underwood or Barner. I'm not sure Pilares will make the final roster.

I apologize for the grammar. Phone is turrible.

Let Ted Ginn go. Get no replacement. Great

3 years, nearly $10 million.

You have to let him go with our cap situation.

I think Underwood is the replacement.  I Do not know how to replace Ginn's production on a budget.

Underwood has elite speed but not elite acceleration. Not sure he's a good fit as a return man.

This will be an interesting camp battle as it might make or break someone's chance to stay on the team eg Pilares.

    • Through 2 games cltfc has 12 shot attempts. Opponents 23 shots on target. Attack sucks, Defense definitely sucks. Kahlina is the only reason they haven't given up 14 goals in two games.
    • I met a few times--never liked him. I figured he might have had a bad day--but then realized that he must have a lot of bad days. Once he raised his voice at my son because my son did not understand a question when SS was signing his jersey.  I wanted the jersey to represent his encounter with a Panther great, not some small man with a bad attitude.  I told me son, "Forget it.  He was asking you what your name is (My son was about 7 and told me that he thought Smitty was going to write (my son's) name on the jersey.  He said "Dad, I thought he was supposed to write HIS name on the jersey, not mine."  I said, "He was personalizing it, writing it to you--like a birthday card."  He is now grown, and he has a steve smith Jersey that is framed and matted.  He keeps it is his closet.  I asked him, "Why not have that out on your wall?"  He said, "All I remember is an A-hole scribbled on my shirt.  I don't remember a legend or hero.  But he had a Jake Delhomme Jersey on his wall.  "Jake was great.  I will always remember that."  (Jake stayed and talked to us for about 5 minutes or more--GREAT guy.)
    • Is it possible for someone to regress in maturity as they age or has Steve really just been a jerk his entire life?
