Why did you become a Panther fan?

I was always a casual NFL fan before the Panthers.  I just enjoyed watching high level football and had favorite players, but not really favorite teams.  Once the Panthers came into existence, I had interest in them as the local team, but there was never really anything to make me become a full fledged fan until we drafted Julius Peppers.  As a huge UNC fan, the drafting of Peppers made me fully commit as a Panthers fan.

Having grown up in Grenville, SC, there was really only 1 team that was close enough to call a local team, and that was the Falcons. I refused to pull for them, because I never liked them. When the Panthers were announced, I immediately became a fan. I went to the games in Clemson, and still have my ticket stub from the first victory over the Jets.

I will be a fan until the end, and even though I now live in another country, my allegiance remains strong. I watch every Sunday on the internet, and keep up to date mainly through the nice folks (??) here on The Huddle.

I joined The Huddle back when it first started after reading about it on the old Observer boards and on the old Panthers.com boards (what a mess that was). And I have never looked back. The Huddle was the best things to ever happen to a Panthers fan.

Simply my whole family was Jets, Giants or Pats. My best friend and I had two favorite players in 05. Julius Peppers and Steve Smith. We decided to be 100% Panther fans and said fug you to both our families. The end.

As a kid the thought of liking an expansion team appealed to me. I wanted to follow a team right from the start or atleast a team that hadn't won anything (Angels/MLB). So when I was 7 and the Panthers and Jags came into the league I took my pick and have never looked back. I chose the Panthers over Jags because of the jerseys and logo. I was 7 what else would I have based it off of.

Living in Canada they didn't show many panthers games. At 7 I didn't know how to watch so I spent many Sunday afternoons following panthers games on the ticker at the bottom of the screen, it freaking sucked.

Growing up in a town where everyone pulled for the local NFL team and moving far away from that town & team made it easy to get with the Panthers. I knew what it was to closely follow the local team. And to do it from the beginning, as I had with the Bills, was awesome. I was always a fan of the NFL, it was an easy choice.

Finding a replacement NHL team has been harder.

Pretty heart warming story.

I was in first grade, and I was a good boy. I build up enough good boy points or whatever to pick out of the prize bin. Well, there was a blue football pillow with a black cat on it, so I picked it out. It was awesome! Soft enough to play with in the house and rough house with. That year my dad was watching the NFC championship game and I noticed that the cat on my ball was on TV, with it also on the uniforms on the white team. I watched that team win in overtime with a game winning TD pass to Steve Smith. That's when I became a fan.

It was meant to be, I still have that ball and it means a hell of a lot to me.

Rams left town. Fug them! Couldn't just start rooting for an existing team, hated them all. Got lucky that two new teams entered the league. Got lucky I chose the right one to adopt. Imagine, I was this close to being a Jaguar fan....(shudder).

...And now for something completely different!

    • I don't think we need to argue over the existence of the drops. Look at the film. Instead of arguing about was this a drop or was that a drop we should be looking at the throws from Bryce and recognizing the fact that there are so many 50/50 balls and passes that receivers have to make physical adjustments to even attempt to haul in. You cannot just put everything on the receiver at all times. For the WR to have success the QB has to be able to more often than not put them in a position to succeed. And we also have to be able to acknowledge when the QB is putting the receiver in jeopardy and that did happen Sunday particularly with Renfrow. I mean even a guy like TMac with his catch radius has faced a challenge hauling in passes from Young. And we're pretty hyped about him. Legette and Sanders I will say have underwhelmed. That's something the head coach needs to sort out. But we still have a really good RB room and we have the highest paid OL for 2025 by a significant margin. Nobody here even necessarily expected Bryce and the team to win many games. They just expected to see competency and something really anything to build on going forward. What we did not want to see was multiple steps back again. And with the investments that have been made there's really no excuse.
    • I firmly believe that ship is sailed.  When he came out for his presser, I literally just watched it thinking how the guys in that locker room feel listening to this same poo every week.  Sure, there are other shitty players on this roster, and definitely some coaches, but when the one guy on the field whose play can make or break your day is consistently atrocious, where they’re doing poo like Dan shows in this breakdown…. Bro, we’re in year 3 and you don’t recognize they’re in zone and a defender is waiting to break on the pass you just stared down for 2 seconds?  And okay, that happens to every QB from time to time, but again, we’re in year 3, and you did it not once, but multiple times in one game.  Somebody else shared in a thread yesterday, I think it was, that the Jags didn’t even run anything exotic.  They didn’t blitz.  They didn’t try to confuse him.  They literally ran zone the majority of the game and rushed 4.  And the poo he did in this breakdown, especially that throw to Renfrow, looked, from memory, exactly like the picks he threw to Jessie Bates repeatedly.  So imagine that guy coming in the locker room and trying to say anything to you.  Even if it’s an apology.  I don’t want to hear it.  You are costing us a chance to win, and if you know you’re not capable of doing better, fall on your sword and take your ass to the bench.  That’s what a good teammate would do.  A shitty one keeps going out there selfishly doing the same dumb poo he’s been doing.  And Dan didn’t even show the scramble to stumble to fumble, which also seems like Bryce has done more times than I’ve ever seen one player do in my life already.  It’s just comedic at this point that anyone is still pretending he is anything but what he’s shown to be.  I really just wish he would bow out and give the players who are actually doing their job a fuging chance.
    • I think he has a chance and his mental makeup is a big part of why. I also think the Bears got a little complacent over the course of that game because the Vikings were completely inept on offense for most of it and once it started clicking for the Vikings the Bears couldn't get their head in the game and realize they had to wakeup and dial in again.
