Dalton signs 6 year deal......Cam watching

I wouldn't be surprised if Cam does take less money for the good of the team, or structrues the contract in a way that allows the Panthers to remain flexible.

Cam strikes me as the type of guy that legit wants to win more than anything.  If that means trusting the team to provide him with weapons while also maintaining an elite defense, I think he will be game.  I see Cam as much more like Lebron than Melo.  Lebron was willing to take less money to win titles, and it paid off.

Plus, Cam is a marketing machine. Superbowl wins will only mean more endorsements.

he has no leverage if the 31 other teams adopt the same format.

That's pure speculation, and certain teams can adopt that format all they like. But guess what? Players who have the leverage will simply say, okay thanks, and sign with another team who is desperate enough to not adopt that format, and pay the player a boat load of cash.

of course it's speculation...it's also speculation that carolina won't offer him a contract with the same format.

Based on Cam's personal achievements which is greater than Dalton and Kaepernick's combined, his guaranteed money should be mid 50 million.

I based that on the following players getting guaranteed money:

Tony Romo - $55 million

Aaron Rodgers - $54 million

Jay Cutler - $54 million

Joe Flacco - $51 Million

Supposedly only 20 guaranteed.  If that's the case, Cam isn't gonna get paid like we think.  At least he shouldn't.

Answered my question. It's the guarantee that matters.

19M/year sounds right as a total contract for cam but I think his guarantee will be way above that average of $3M+ per year.

Articles are now saying we will get this done before the 5th year option i.e. after the season. I honestly would have seen it happening before this season but we don't have any money. Not sure we will have it next year either. Cam doesn't seem to mind so far.

There will numerous back and forth numbers, and contracts thrown around, I'm sure a team friendly deal will be one of them.

Will Cam agree to that? Who knows.

Obviously I would like to see him get paid while also helping out the team, but the man has done a lot for this franchise, and brought back much needed excitement in only his first three seasons. I cannot sit here and say that he has to accept that kind of contract structure though.

Not sure I agree with the "Cam deserves more than every QB who gets a new contract" sentiments.

His size and agility help him a great deal with his spells of inaccurate throws.  If he can get that under control, then I think he will be deserving of a huge payday.

4th year QB and only issue is some high throws?  I will take that.  Cam should get at 19-20 per year with atleast 45-50 million  guaranteed. Would like to see a 8 year contract would keep Cam here til he is 33.

Wow. I'd like to see the details on that contract though, I wonder if it's anything like Kaepernick's deal.

Sounds like they are intimating that the deal may be similar, except with more money, but no one has come out with the details.

When the San Francisco 49ers signed Colin Kaepernick earlier this offseason, they essentially gave him a "pay as you go" deal. There was very little money guaranteed, and Kaepernick will have to keep performing at a high level to earn his money. Dalton might have a similar structure, as Brown indicated publicly over the summer. Per Rapoport, via a directly involved source, Dalton's extension includes more fully guaranteed money than Kaepernick's $12.3 million.

Of course Cam ain't about the pay-as-you-go model, and I don't blame him.

At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if Newton is given the largest contract.

How would the world react if Cam took a middle of the road deal in order to help better build a winning team?
