Sooooo I was watching the NatGeo show worlds Wierdest where they highlight peculiar animal behavior and I saw the episode titled "Almost Human."

So come to find out many animals are self aware. I'm gonna have to become a vegetarian. fug

My cat knows when I'm about to get off the couch to go do something. So this is when he wants to hop in my lap for the first time that day for some petting. He does this ALL the time. It's uncanny. Little bastard.

Self awareness is still not an officially recognized trait outside of humans by the scientific community. The inability for animals to communicate to us in exactly the same way that we communicate to each other allows for a wide margin of misinterpretation of their actions. Any statement otherwise is mostly speculation on the part of the observer and amounts to basically just anthropomorphism.  In saying that...
