Fixing the running game a.k.a same story, different year

Okay..only one game but......it was just as lame as ever. Without Cam it's like a one legged man in a ass kicking contest..doesn't work well. So what to do,we shouldn't depend on our QB with a repaired ankle to shoulder the load again. Here's options:

1. Sign the best available tackle we can find after cuts ( two lineman if possible). Our starting line is marginal at best. The backups are subpar to say the least.

2. Lean heavy on two TE sets and utilize a fullback in the running game.If that means keeping Barnidge plus the three TE's then so be it or if not find a legit fullback after cuts....can't run with the little push and non existent holes this oline provides.

3. Barner or Reeves....one is gone.... or Reeves to the practice squad. From what I have seen of Reeves in practice and now game time..he is the stouter runner with more power...Want to see him and Barner battle it out in the next three games....DLo can take one or two snaps and call it a day. If Stewart is fooling us all and actually plays and can stay healthy, then that would be HUGE. As far as Fozzy goes.....who knows.

Bottom line..Our WR and TE Corp is above average (yes, I think they are) and will excel with a dependable running game. I hope

D.G. And R.R are hatching a plan to do what needs to be done and not relying on Cam for our running game...but as a part of a real running game.

Why we gotta be assholes to one another?

I think the run game will greatly improve with better OL play. I like our interior, I really think they just need more time together. A formidable game plan would be nice, perhaps we see an I.provement in game three.

Just don't talk poo about a RB if he is getting smacked by three different defenders in the backfield. Wtf barner sucks! Yeah just stop folks

The running game starts on the offensive line. We have a rookie, a guy coming off an ACL tear, a guy who has never played LT in the NFL and a guy who was only played on the OL for one year of his career.

It's going to take some time.

I am sorry I dont think Barnidge is gonna make the team this year,

This just made my night. I remember playing the older Maddens and throwing my controller across the room cause Barny couldn't catch a fuging cold.

The running game will get better once our receivers prove themselves.  Until then, teams will stack the box.

This.

This right here will be huge.  2+ years ago defenses stacked the box.  Cam didn't make good reads on which LB's were blitzing and which weren't.  It has gotten light years better despite the OL getting worse.

The OL needs to gel and the Panthers need to run the ball more often in 2014 then in years past.  This will be the only way they will succeed pass blocking.  There is a great article around somewhere that talks about OL.  The OL always get beat pass blocking and only have an advantage run blocking.  That is when they can wear down the defense - no tall task today with the high rotations used on the front 3 or 4.  I would like to see the stat, how many 3rd downs were converted by run and how many by pass in 2013 by the Panthers.  I'd like to see if it is any different then most NFL teams.

Maybe it is just the OC, though...

The big thing now is that Cam is capable of making the reads and playing exceptionally well.  If he has time to take 3 to 4 step drops 30 times a game it is going to make a difference on the W-L column.  But, expecting him to complete a pass to save a series on 3rd and 2 is just ridiculous.  The OL needs to step up and the RB's need to find lanes.

Our TE position was such a black hole I would just say fug it and trade for Greg Olsen, then when we actually got him I fapped for days.

    • Yep. I was hoping for and calling for a day three guy. But I didn’t research the position to say if we should or should‘t have jumped at a particular guy at a particular spot.    And everything I read said it was a poor draft for RBs depth wise. I guess when Seattle takes a backup RB in the 1st, that kind of backs that up.    I definitely think we should keep 4 running backs and if King can play well enough then keep him too.    I believe I heard Canales say we are a running team (talking about drafting a WR he will be needing to block as well as catch). Well if we are gonna be a running team by identity we don’t need to stock the WR room to overflowing. If one room has to sacrifice, it should not be the RB room given our circumstances.
    • If there's a pattern I'm definitely picking up from Dan and company is a philosophy of making trades where we try not to sacrifice the number of draft picks we have by day's end. In other words, we're not giving up three picks for one, or giving up a future pick to make a pick today. And even if we give up something at the start, we make trades later to make up for that initial loss. Here's how it stacked up for 2026: How we started: 19, 51, 83, 119, 158, 159, 200 How we ended: 19, 49, 83, 129, 144, 151, 227 (no future picks sacrificed) Ultimately, we moved up two spots in the second to ensure we got someone we coveted, gave up a few spots for our fourth round pick, but then had better picks in the 5th (and got really good value out of them), and had a worse 7th rounder which isn't that big of a loss anyways.  At this point, we can question who they draft, but they're pretty good maneuvering across the draft board.
    • I just saw the funniest thing...or very disappointing, depending how you handle misery. A guy on YouTube did a 2027 'way too early' mock draft.  If I told you the simulator has the Panthers selecting in the top 10 , what would you say?  If I told you it was pick #8 and only two QBs were taken in the top 7, what would you say?  If I told you this dude had us taking a defensive player, what would you say?
