One thing G-man said on Panther Talk last night.

top dawg

I usually try to listen to Panther Talk on Monday nights (even though I am at work).  I missed most of what G-man said, but I did hear him say  that if Joe Webb plays well enough to make the final roster, then he will make the final roster.  G-man expounded by basically shooting down the idea that he would keep someone at a needier position if they didn't play up to the level of someone else at another position.

Much like he has a general philosophy of drafting the BPA, regardless of position, it sounds to me like he incorporates that same ideology when deciding who makes the team.

Take it how you want.  G-man strikes me as a man of his word.  I just thought I'd share the parallel.

So Webb had a decent game against a bunch of guys that won't make the 53 roster for either team.

Only way Webb makes this team is if Gettle plans on unloading some salary and drops DA this year or next.

Webb could easily go to the practice squad. DA just got an extension this offseason I believe....he is staying this year. Webb isn't better at QB.

I did hear him say that if Joe Webb plays well enough to make the final roster, then he will make the final roster.

The quote and sentiment are nice but there is some grey area IMO. For example Joe Webb May be a more talented football player than let's say a 5-7 DB but the likelihood of him contributing to the team as a 3rd string QB is less than the lower ranked DB. The DB can maybe work himself into the rotation or contribute on ST.

Gettleman isn't going to even hint at any individual player being cut yet. Not sure what he was expected to say?

As I recall, the question wasn't about being cut, it was about the speculation as to whether or not he would keep three QBs on the roster, in light of Joe Webb's success, in lieu of another position. G-man, in his own kinda matter-of-fact way, basically said the best player would be retained, period.

It shouldn't be forgetten that part of the reason he is here is because he has a similiar play to Cam.  Not nearly as good but could be a better use for us in case of an emergency.

If he displays the same ability in the next couple preseason games than I am all for him making the team.

Some gotta remember we can only dress so many of the 53.   But unlike the other positions if an emergency were to happen the 3rd QB (undressed) could be activated during a game.  (I believe that is what the rule says)  However, if he isn't on your roster you are pretty much screwed.

I could see him being on the roster but inactive come game time. I believe we will keep him. I see us cutting Godfrey and also I could see us putting a few players like Philly Brown, Lucas, ect on practice squad. We could cut him and resign him if Cam gets hurt.

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
