Bell getting some love on NFL.com

I have no delusions of Bell being great but he deserves credit when he plays well just as there is no reason to sugar coat his bad play. When people like the coach, GM, former All Pro team mate, and now one of the most respected members of the actual knowledgeable media with real professional experience in player evaluation say good things about his play there is no reason to poo on him. It's in the absolute best interest of this team for him to be successful.

Gil was on the radio this morning talking about Bell. He also spoke about KB a bit, and the fact that he doesn't think Cam and Rivera get enough credit nationally. He basically gave his view of the team after spending a couple of days at camp last week.

Here is a link to the podcast for anyone that wants to listen

very good listen for several reasons. brandt is one of the few media guys worth paying attention to, and not just because he was a cam supporter from early on in the draft process. he knows his stuff and all you have to do is look at his history as a GM. i don't like the cowboys and never have, but i respect the teams he built there.

if he gives an opinion about a player, you should listen.

I've said this before but in case anyone missed it. Bell has lost weight. He came to camp in shape, something he didn't do last year. He really wants to stay in the NFL and make left tackle money so he's been eating healthy and stepping up his game. You see a lot of guys do this as they mature.

Bell is not Johnathan Ogden, we all know that. But he looks better. He also got a ton of blame for Cam's playstyle. Even against the Chiefs last week our line would be in decent position and Cam would give the pass rusher an angle with his movement. I don't necessarily think an all pro tackle would fix that part of it.

With all that said, Bell is slow. Freak athletes have dominated him at times. He can have 11 average games, two good ones, and three embarrassments and everyone will remember those three games. Just go back to last year, everyone brings up one game.

I was impressed with how much he knew about our roster for a national guy that covers 32 teams. He was talking about the bad players and bad contracts that Ron and Dave have been dealing with. He talked about Kawann Short looking improved.

All the other national guys are talking about players that aren't on our roster. Gil actually knew who was.

Yeah he was pretty specific with his analysis of the Panthers where most in the national media will give the same old generic assessment of the teams across the league that they discuss. When I was listening on the way into work this morning my first thought was that he must have paid attention while attending camp those two days.

I don't remember him coming to camp out of shape, but your LT's generally have to be more agile and lighter to contend with the defenses best pass rusher - thus losing weight was a no brainer. I've never questioned Bell's motives or work ethic, for me it was just a question of ability.
