Can I Just Say A Word About Ricky Proehl?

Not for nothing, but I'm sitting here watching the Panthers' Sunday morning show, and they're featuring a story on Ricky Proehl. As I watch him working with the receivers, miked up, and a camera following his every move, I am reminded what made him such a great offensive weapon for us when he played. It's also what makes him a gem of a coach for us now, and probably the perfect guy to tutor a bunch of youngsters who are just learning the ropes of the NFL game. I'm very thankful he's still a part of the organization!

Ricky was one of those guys that helped us get to the Super Bowl. Every great team has those role players that are better than the other team's role players. He is a guy with a great reputation for guys in their 20s. He played in three Super Bowls and our players remember watching him.

He was also one of the nicest guys I've ever met at Training Camp. Stephen Davis blew off some kids in 2004 and Ricky ran him down and said "Cmon Stephen, do it for me". Davis was still reluctant but Ricky wouldn't let him go.

I love RP and hope we can hang on to him for awhile....wonder if he has any aspirations for OC or if he just loves being a WR coach.

Bet he'd be better than Shula but if he wants to stay and be our WR for a long time I'm very cool with that!

Not sure.

I can tell you the Panthers are very high on the futures of Proehl and Dorsey.

That is one of the most exciting things about being a fan right now.  Not just the on-field potential, the coaching staff potential.  One of those two will be an offensive coordinator in the next 5 years.

How is his overall offensive mind?  Does he have what it takes to eventually move up to an OC candidate in the league?

I have no doubt he'd be a good OC. He's the only guy on offense I'd worry of losing to that type opportunity, though Carolina doesn't have to let him interview and he has ties to the organzation and the area.

    • Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.
    • This post was an error. Oops and sorry for the errors in the previous one. Too slow to edit.   We’ll see what they do.
    • I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
