Depth. Can now "play" multiple positions in the Secondary. I'd say thats what it comes down to. Could be cut of course but you may as well keep him over a Josh Thomas or James Dockery who he's vying with for the final DB spot because he can play multiple places.

I think he sticks as a veteran presence. He did the Panthers a solid by reducing his salary. It might hurt the Panthers reputation with the players to cut him.

Godfrey has been beat out at CB.  He has one last chance to make the team at safety.  If we bring in a safety from the waiver wire, we will need to cut a player at safety to make room.  Gettleman knows talent and who has lost it.

I've watched him be a better safety then Russell and Lester.
