Final Panther cuts 8-30-2014

It was either him or Folkerts. I really thought Folkerts was gone due to Velasco, but oh well. Can never have too many centers I guess.

Also Velasco can play guard. They must have liked what they saw from Velasco at guard more than what they got out of Scott. Scott was just a fat slob who got beat like a drum in pass pro.

Cotchery has averaged 35 catches a year over the past 5 seasons- less than LaFell or Ginn had last season. And he got 5 years @ $8M. One (1) catch this preseason...

Avant has more catches, stays healthy, but doesn't score and he gets 1 year, $1M. Preseason: also 1 catch, 25 yards.

"He didn't exactly outperform them. He was just thrown to more."

Receivers catch passes. Their entire career is based upon catching passes. King caught 6, 3 times as many as Coitchery and Avant together. Maybe because he gets open? Faster? Better hands? Caught passes? How the fug is that not outperforming?

I put no weight in the preseason. Cotchery and Avant have had solid careers. King has never played.

It worries me that DG ever thought King and Mcnutt were any sort of answer. It's nice to see he isn't afraid to admit he's wrong and doesn't drag players along and waste roster space, in hopes to be right. But this was one of the deepest WR drafts an we only left with 1.

Haven't seen him name but with Dockery getting cut I'm thinking Thomas makes it unless we sign someone else.

It worries me that DG believes Cotchery and Avant are any sort of answer as well.....

When did DG ever say he thought King or McNutt were the answer? Never.

Between "the answer is on the roster" and only drafting one WR in a draft deep at WR says alot.

Done talking about those 2. Heard all offseason from posters here about how we don't need certain WR's because we have those two.

I take Big Ben looking for Cotchery in the redzone as a plus not a negative. Sure, because of all the other targets around him he could work one on one without extra coverage, but it still says something that Big Ben looked to him so often.

Look, you know Nicks is more talented than Cotchery, I know it too, I'm just saying that at this point we have no proof that Gettlemen made the wrong decision, especially when you add Avant

Yes, Cotchery is valuable in the redzone because of his hands and route-running, and as you mentioned, was surrounded by talent that allowed him to work one on one.

I'm not saying Cotchery and Avant are not valuable. They are, in the right roles... My gripe is that all we can go on is ability and talent right now. So knowing we passed up on Nicks for Cotchery and Avant is tough. Nicks lining up across from Benjamin versus Cotchery or Avant lining up across from Benjamin as the next best option... that's a huge discrepancy. That's my gripe.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life. QUOTE: "Sometimes the answer is on the roster." Guess what? Bersin was on our PS, basically the roster, and now everyone here thinks he can be an answer. So guess what? G-Man was right. Guess what else? G-Man drafted BPA and guess what? He gets paid to make those decisions and has had much success in the past. What are your credentials?
