Cam's Contract Projection by Spotrac

He's not taking a pay cut. We can't poo on stupid New Orleans fans when they thought Drew would do the same. People want to get paid, period.

25 Million is crazy scary though.

Yeah, but Brees didn't/doesn't have anywhere near the marketability and was signing the last contract of his career vs. Cam signing his first. No one is saying Cam will play for vet min, but doing it like Brady (pardon the Pats reference) and taking a small discount can go a long way towards boosting his other revenue streams when it means they can pay Luke, Star, and KB as well.

If (and I mean if) Cam and his agent is looking for a massive contract, I would let him walk. Seriously, we CANNOT break this defense up. I think we could still keep on winning if we brought in another rookie QB, but I do not think we could win without our defense. Sorry to say. However, I agree that I think Cam agrees to a friendly team deal so we can sustain success. If not, let him walk.

Its pretty hard to come by a QB like Cam... You cant just "find another rookie QB" and expect to win games, let alone the super bowl. Lock Cam down because by the time his contract gets played out, theres going to be $200+ million QBs.

QB contracts are just outrageous.  The NFL needs to seriously start thinking about expanding cap space by leaps and bounds.

And the sad part is the QB contracts will expand leaps and bounds with the salary cap going up leaps and bounds.

I kind of agree with him thinking about a team-friendly deal.

But at the same time, whatever we pay him...he's worth it. Between his marketability, value to the community, and play on the field...sign him for whatever.

Cam is fortunate that he has plenty of big money endorsements. I believe winning is more important than the money.   Not that he will but I won't be shocked it is it not a bank breaker.

No team friendly deals coming from Cam, imo..  #1 overall picks are already playing for peanuts compared to the pre-2011 #1 overall picks.    We didn't have to pay the huge contract up front.. just had to worry about his second contract....which he will get and it will be jaw dropping.

That is a very good point.  I couldn't blame him for trying to maximize his next contract.

To us "normal" people all of these contracts sound great but I can understand not wanting to get paid less then others who aren't performing as well.

    • Also, just for clarity, is this thread meant for general discussion of Bryce Young, or discussion of General Bryce Young?
    • The word I feel most comfortable using as a descriptor is "inconsistent". Haven't really seen anyone disagree with that. Consistency being one of the things I value most in a player, that makes me lean toward moving on. But he does still have both time and opportunity to prove otherwise. Mind you, having a streaky quarterback isn't exactly a new thing in Charlotte (you could argue it's been the norm). Delhomme was notorious for starting slow but finishing strong. He could sadly also find hos way into ruts that were difficult to crawl out of. Newton, on the other hand, was often known to start hot but fade late (the vast majority of the 2015 season followed that pattern) though it could be argued that was a team pattern as much as it was Cam's.  There are definitely some fans for whom this is always going to be a bridge too far. (or too short) Realistically, it's not impossible that he could still have a good career even with those issues. It's a damn sight more difficult, though. And arguably, less likely.
    • Oh, I did, and they weren't based in emotions either. Granted, characterizing them that way gives you an easy out to avoid responding to them. Similar tactic to dismissing the other guy's points with "nah, you didn't really watch the games" which saves you having to debate what he said. Strikes me as a kinda lazy way to go, but hey both elements are still back there if you feel up to trying later.
