I don't know about you all, but as this week has crept along I've become nervous about how this team will react to all the distractions surrounding it.

 

But then I think back to how Rivera and Co. have handled adversity in the past.

 

After a disastrous 2-8 start to the 2012 season, which saw Hurney lose his job, Rivera was able to keep the locker room and win five out of six to end the season with a 7-9 record. 

 

Last season it was more of the same. After a 1-3 start, many including myself were calling for Rivera's head. As we all know that is when Ron Rivera evolved into Calculated Risk-Taker Ron, and since then the team has won 13 of 14 games.

 

The strong finish to the 2012 season and the dominant streak that we see know is a testament to Coach Rivera and the leaders in the locker room.

 

Now here we are, after an unprecedented week of national media outlets grandstanding and lambasting the organization ahead of a rare Sunday Night Primetime home game, this organization will field its best team since 2003.

 

How do you expect the players to react?  Do you think it'll be business as usual?

 

I don't. I expect Rivera to use this adversity as fuel. I expect to see complete and utter dominance from here on out. If there would be any hint of complacency after a hot start, that can go out the window now.

 

This team will be out for blood. Pittsburgh, you're on the clock.

Yeah, I never really thought about it, but out of our last 24 regular season games, we've won 19 of them.

This team is good.

I doubt the GH saga is really much of a distraction to the team. Most of them probably realized which way it was headed 10 days ago, and have gone about their business

 

The greater concern is a letdown, thinking Pittsburg is bad and can't beat us. We've only played 2 games, and while I agree we look to be one of the league's best, this is no time to become complacent.

This team is Pissed the fug off:

 

1. All the preseason battery over our WR core and Secondary and oline, the whole first to worst bs and general lack of respect from media

 

2. The media dragging Hardy and our organization through the mud, basically getting Hardy on this exempt list

 

3. Still Mad over early exit from the playoffs

 

You can see it in the press conferences, especially Rivera, I say if we get up big he will keep pouring it on to send a big FU$K you to the media and the rest of the NFL! I fully expect a BEAT DOWN sunday night if front of a National TV audience!!!!

      Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.

      I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
