Yes, but with Johnson ailing we have only three healthy defensive ends.

I don't know that I wanna go into a game with just that.

Well I was thinking Brockel beforehand. Might go ahead and put him on IR. We have BWill and Ogbanana at FB now until Tolbert comes back.

Coples had 5.5 sacks his rookie year.  That's better than both Hardy and CJ their rookie year, and is better than most rookie years on average.  So far he has a sack and a forced fumble with the Jets this year, but we all know his natural position is DE.  I'm telling yall based on the numbers, this could be another Greg Olsen steal of a trade.

With all that said, who else is worthy of bringing in to help this D-line?  Continue to suck up front, or bring in a potentially good talent for a 3rd or 4th round draft pick in a year we will get multiple compensatory 3rd and 4th round picks.  This is an easy decision to make people.

Do you really see the Jets trading a former 1st Rd pick, 20 Gamez into his career? Let alone for a 3rd-4th Rd pick!?

CJ and Hardy were 3rd and 6th round picks not 2nd round pluck like Coples and didn't get half the snaps he did. Playing behind Peppers, Brayton and 1st round pick E Brown.

Maybe show the snap count before you try and make this a point.

Yes, just like the Bears did with Olsen because he didn't fit their system.  It's the same with Coples.  I would even throw in Norman so it would seem like the Jets are getting the better deal.  There's no question that the Jets aren't in love with Coples at linebacker.  They take him off the field at times, so they would do this deal.

Looking at the stats, Coples started 2 games his rookie year but played in all 16.  Hardy played in 15 games, but didn't start any.  Johnson started 2 games his rookie year and played 3. (Assuming he got hurt.  The following year he played 15 games and got 6 sacks)  You're right about this overall, but Coples still had an good year.

    • That was always the fear, expectation, concern, etc, I had.  Someone showed a still shot from his pick last game and said it showed that the defender closed 3 yards on that ball in the last portion of its flight. I forget the number. 10 yards I think it said but that sounds extreme.  When guys are open by a step, any slowing down to wait for the ball lets the defender back into the play. That sort of stuff makes the margins so small… these NFL CBs are not slow.   It is a league that highly values foot speed; the 40 times and drill times are scrutinized down to the hundredth of a second when evaluating these players on both sides of the passing game. Receivers and defenders both.   My thing with his arm strength (or anyone’s) was always “why do you want to do that? Plus pay extra picks to put yourself in that situation?”. Asking for trouble.     I wish there was a way to measure velocity on the back half of a throw compared to when it left the hand. Or really get accurate reading of the flight time of a ball from the near hash to the sideline, 10 yards down the field. Because teams could use that info. I have always seen this as being a disadvantage with Bryce but it is beyond my ability to quantify it.   I think it would show what that arm strength is really about, a lot more than just measuring how much air can you put under it so it will fly as far as possible.
    • Who didn't see that coming....
    • Its a detriment if he can't play...as we are seeing.
