Cam's first-down celebrations really bother a lot of people. Why?

Is this a generational thing? My dad has never once criticized Cam until he told me how much he hates his first-down celebrations out of the blue yesterday. People at the office are ripping him for it. Even Jim Celania who we all love and who loves Cam was calling Cam out for the first-down finger point.

Am I the only one that truly doesn't get the big deal about it at all? People seem to not care about that at all as long as we're winning. The second we lose and/or Cam doesn't play well, it's all about how awful the first-down celebration is.

This is Year 4. Is this something Cam needs to get rid of like the towel over the head to appease the haters?

Bc some people are cool with WRs or RBs doing this and QB need to be more emotionless.....way it has been and they think that means change to it must then be negative.

Unless Aaron Rodgers is doing his WWF belt....that is okay.

Tom Brady will get so pumped up I have seen him chop a first down so hard I thought his arm was going to fly off.

They hate on Cam bc he is a first down machine and therefore see it much more than when a traditional QB does it 2 times a year

i havent heard anyone whine about this this year.  is this a thing or just a whine about a whine?

People on the radio, the office, and my own old-ass dad have been going off on this today. It's been the #1 topic of conversation I've seen people having after yesterday.

I think you'll find that Panthers fans that aren't on the Huddle are very different from Panthers fans that are on the Huddle.

It bothers me because he's the QB of the team.  The 5-10 seconds or longer it takes him to do it, he could be spending that time working on the next play.  I also don't like him chewing gum as he plays, safety reasons.  Of course in all, he does a lot of things that aren't really necessary.  I know he's a free spirit, but he's also a developing player.  I would like to see him master his craft before doing all these other things.

it's because he is black

This is the cliche answer, but... I think it's a big part of it unfortunately.  About 99% of the people I see talking poo about Cam... calling him "Sir Cameron Newton: Leader of Men, Lover of Puppies...Esquire" etc., are bitter white guys.

This is also my answer to those criticizing Cam... the PA announcer makes a HUGE deal of first downs in the stadium and everyone in the hyped up sections does the point when we get a 1st down.  Why shouldn't Cam?

Edit:  Nice filter there mods...   I typed "S-cam Newton" in reference to what was being said, fyi...

    • agree to disagree you are entitled to that opinion even though I find the argument completely bizarre based on data. I could type out a long paragraph discussing those areas but what’s the point. I posted a screenshot that showed Bryce in a similar post snap situation with a free rusher in his face which resulted in a TD - that’s what happened on the play so I posted it.
    • I've already addressed this notion in a previous reply. You are basing your assertion outside reality if you think Bryce would have not only been more successful but defeated the Patriots in place of Herbert. Bryce got blown off the field by that Patriots team with the highest paid OL in the league. We've seen Bryce with an OL that gave up 65 sacks and it resulted in the #1 pick. And that is not a defense of Herbert or arguing he is a great QB in any way. He has physical talent but he has been similar to Darnold early in his career in terms of his very up and down perfomances. However that does not change the fact that they have significantly less invested in the OL than the Panthers.
    • I think Tepper has been setting the stage where pending there is no miracle he wipes it all clean.  Think you already have been told that with small things like Evero staying.  Bryce is the guy next year.  OC, DC, everything stays the same.  QB room largely the same.  Nothing would really matter there.  They basically get one more shot and it goes how the schedule paired with our 27th ranked O predictably most likely goes.  Everyone out the door together.  Bryce is a bridge tier QB.  I don’t see Dave surviving where he could be bridge QB here in reality.
