Jonathan Jones With Interesting Breakdown of Cam's Incompletions

I think that might validate some folks speculation that he might be somewhat shell shocked or trying to do too much.  One thing he still struggles to do is throw the ball away.  When we had 1st and goal from the 10 in the fourth quarter he took a sack instead of simply throwing the ball away  through the endzone.  Even when he is afraid of intentional grounding, which is worse taking a 10 or 15 yards sack which also makes the down count or taking a 5 yard penalty and loss of down.  Seems to me he is trying to run when he was most effective early when he had to stay in the pocket.  While we benefit from his running he seems to be much poorer scanning the field since we turned him loose instead of when he has to stay in the pocket. I don't know really.....

Yeah, and I think in that same vein that something has to be said of him possibly losing faith in his receivers.  Someone pointed out that Olsen was open on Cam's TD run and instead he chose to commit to running it in and had to make an extraordinary play to make that score versus throwing it to Olsen.

I think that demonstrates a loss of trust in the receivers, although he has no reason to feel that way about Olsen.

On the other hand, it could just be poor decision making in the heat of the moment...  Problem is, he wasn't doing that the first few games of the season.

So, of 18 incompletions, 13 (7 high, low, or long and 6 PBUs because of throwing into coverage) are Cams fault, but the WRs are the ones not getting it done?

The play where Cotchery was wide open down the middle would have been an easy TD if the throw was even halfway decent. By the time the high lob got there, 3 guys had time to get there.

I know we have lots of problems, but nobody is blameless. We'll not even get into the 1st and goal at the 6 that turned into 2nd and goal at the 14 because "somebody" ran backwards and then laid down instead of just throwing the damn ball away.

I don't care how bad Hill is, it's time to put him in so we can at least pretend to have a deep threat with enough speed to take it to the house.

Like that matters if cam can't make accurate passes. Dude, Cam is generally nowhere close to getting the ball in a catchable position downfield without our WR making highlight catches. Cam has little to zero touch on passes.

We do need speed at wr, but not all the PBU's are on the receivers.  I'd like to see how many of those PBU's are a result of the ball being forced into tight coverage while other receivers were open.  It blows my mind how good Cam could be if he just let the game come to him and took what the D gives him instead of forcing the ball down field.

I'd like for someone to find how many throws to Kelvin haven't required throwing into tight coverage.

D doesn't give Cam nearly what people suggest it does IMO.   Yeah, he misses open guy sometimes.  A lot of those open guys also become open as he is having to adjust to the line falling apart.

Yeah, ikr. He can't pass for poo. Glad Getts and the front office didn't call Cam a franchise QB. Wait......

This. I have come to the understanding that quite a bit of people in this fanbase, are challenged by cognitive nuances.

This seems to be a hard idea for some of you to grasp.

TEAM SPORT

Now I'm not sure what is so hard to understand about this but some of you consistently state that if one player played better the ship would right itself and we could sail off to Lombardi land.

Everyone knows that this is a 3 phase game.  Offense, Defense and Special Teams.  If you do well in all 3 you will win more times than not.  If you do well in 2 out of 3 phases you are still in a position to win just not as consistently.  If you only do 1 or none well you are the Jaguars.

Furthermore, of the 3 phases you can split them up into position groups because they build off of one another.

So out of the complex inner workings of a professional football team how many are you willing to lay at Cam's feet?

Not a single game this year have we been up to par in all 3 phases or even 2 for that matter for the full 60 minutes.

What Cam is not responsible for:

Cam is not responsible for the putrid Oline when it comes to them winning their one on one battles.

Cam is not responsible for the ineptitude and predictability of Shula's play calling.  Every one knew we were going to try and force the ball to Benjamin in the redzone.

Cam is not responsible for a few of the drops made by the receivers though he did have a hand in a few of them.

What Cam is responsible for:

Cam is responsible for not hitting his check down receivers.  This does help a neutralize a pass rush.  If the D keys in on Cam always going down field it makes it twice as hard for an already suspect Oline to protect Cam.    The Saints gave us the underneath routes and the flats and Cam ignored it. If Cam hits his check downs on a regular basis it forces the D to be more honest and also spreads them out.  The more the D has to account for the better off we'll be.

Cam does need to develop more touch on his passes.

Cam is responsible for forcing the ball into double and sometimes triple coverage.

Cam does have the ability to change the play based upon the look of the defense.  New Orleans utilized their timeouts when Brees didn't like how the defense was lined up.  We hardly ever use timeouts in that fashion.

Cam does have a say pre-snap to help guide protections.

Cam does have the ability to get the ball out quickly.

Great post.

Now the good question now is... What and how much does the first impact the last ones.

Cam often begin pressing and going all in when everyone around him fug up. So the bad play calling and O-line get the wors out of Cam. That is not so odd.  Now Cams ability to read some Ds and his touch is not something that is impacted. The touch thing is just Cam and will never go away. He is a true gunslinger and its all or nothing.

There is maybe two or three QBs in the league who pretty much can win by them self. The rest need a good supporting cast. Cam has nothing.

Yea let's get into the first and goal at the 6 since you are using it to bash Cam. It was a designed run play where our all pro center ended up on his arse and there was no where to run. You can't just throw the ball away when you are going to get tackled on a run play unless you want a penalty for lineman down field. I'ts not smear the ***** from your sandlot days where you just throw the ball away to keep from getting hit.

we need speed at all the skill positions offensively and defensively.

I am sure that everyone will treat Cotchery's "drop" inside the 10 as his fault.  But, you would be partially wrong.

Should he have come down with it....yes, that is his job even though the shot he took was big.

However, the throw from Cam was WAY late.  Cotchery had broken open at the 20, but the ball came out very late from Cam and allowed the safety time to make the play.  Many "dropped" balls are usually the fault of both the QB and the WR.  Sometimes one is more at fault....and other times it is the other being more at fault.

But, on this board it would be all Cotchery's fault.

It is Rivera's fault, Shula's fault, the OLines fault, the WR's fault (did I miss anyone?) that Cam has a whopping 22 completions in the past two games.....they are a contributing factor.  However, the fact is that Cam has NOT played well the past few games.  I hope he and the offense get out of the funk they are in.
