Pro Bowl defensive end Greg Hardy's season effectively ended when his assault trial was postponed until next year.

As an impending free agent assigned the franchise tag in 2014, Hardy's Carolina Panthers career is up in the air at age 26.

Citing multiple team sources, the Charlotte Observer's Joseph Person reports Hardy is unlikely to play for the Panthers in 2015.

Forced to operate on a shoe-string budget, in large part due to Hardy's $13.116 million salary under the franchise tag, general manager Dave Gettleman's hands were tied in rebuilding his offensive line, wide receiver corps and defensive backfield.

To this point, the Panthers have paid Hardy $6.17 million to not play.

it's Joe (the worst fugging) Person who reported that. but common sense-wise, if you take $13million for doing nothing and there was no injury, you probably wont return.

 

i still blame the franchise though for letting outside influences show how weak they are.

take Steve's 5, Beason's 8 and Hardy's 13, that is $26million in salary that we have used on players not playing. add in Gross and whoever else, you can see why we pretty much suck.

So you're telling me that Dave Gettleman purposely neglected to upgrade our offensive line and secondary to pay Greg Hardy. So you put your most important player's health in jeopardy to pay one man? That's shameful
