compare Manning over the span of his 2nd to 4th year to Cam over the course of his 2nd yr to now:

from 1999-2001, Manning was:

#1 in passing yards (Kurt Warner #2 Favre #3)

#2 in passing TDs (Warner #1, Farve #4)

#2 in most wins (Warner #1, Favre tied #2)

#5 in QB rating with 89.9 (Warner #1, Farve #15 with 81.7)

from 2012-now, Cam is:

#12 in wins (Manning #1)

#15 in passing yards (Brees #1, Manning #2)

#17 in passing TDs (Manning #1)

#20 in passer rating (Manning #1)

Yeah, about that. The statistical difference in that regard is the natural disparity between a HC/OC that knows that in the NFL the rules are constructed to give a *passing* team the advantage against a defense compared to a herp-ball-control-derp-run-the-ball HC/DC that still live in the NFL rules of the 1960's.

But you knew that already. Either that or you're not very knowledgeable.

Do people remember what the NFL was like before all the rule changes in favor of passing offense? Back then any completion % over 60 was good back then, now it's the floor. If you started a full season you were almost guaranteed to throw 10 picks. Completely different eras for passing offenses can't be compared.

I'm in the camp that Cam needs to start playing better, because he does, but rankings are a piss poor way to evaluate how good the players are a decade apart.

The game has changed in that time. There are better passers these days than those days. Back then there were 2-3 ELITE QBs. Now there are damn near 5-6.

Put the raw numbers up against each other, not where they rank in their respective years.

No one threw for 5,000 yards back then. Hell, 4,000 was a rarity. Now everyone and their little brother (Eli) does it.

So pretend that Cam was in that era and insert his stats in that same time frame of Warner, Manning, and Favre. I can damn near guarantee you he is top 5 in every passing category other than TD passes.

Everyone could go back and forth all day with stats to make an argument but did anyone watch the Pats/Colts last night?

There was a 3rd and 3 play where Brady went deep into double coverage. Also a 3rd and 1 where he lobbed it up and got picked. Even the elite still make bad mistakes.

Brady also had the luxury of sitting back and watching his run game produce 244 yards and 199 from one back. Jonas Gray had more yards last night than DWill has all season and more TD's than DWill and Stewart have combined all year.

Luck got no production from his running game and the Colts struggled to score. What am I getting at? Cam has literally had no production from his running backs all year. Cam has been in 3rd in long so many times and becomes a sitting duck back there with this OL.

I just don't think anyone can fairly judge or blame Cam for the stuff that's happening. All these things are starting to wear Cam down as well. Did Cam make a couple bad throws yesterday? Yes. But at the end of the game he had his team in a position to win only to have the coaches piss it away.

Cam is good.  My only complaint is the read option calls.  I want to see Cam run a majority pro offense.  Using the read option and other college formations is an attempt to get the most out of Cam.  A pro formation gets the best out of the entire offense.

If anything Manning is a shining example of what having a competent head coach means.

He's also had some great talent around him his whole career and that's what's frustrating about this. This organization has basically thrown Cam under the bus with the talent they've surrounded him with

Being white does have something to do with it, I mean, the Panthers are in the thick of Nascar country. I've seen Panthers fans question Cam's intelligence over and over again. They want Derek Anderson to START for Christ's sake.

I don't think he's that smart. He lets things get to him. No mental toughness. Mentally defeated.

He's a heck of an athlete though. Fast and strong and throws hard. Just has tons to go still in the maturity and leadership department.

Wonder how many years it will take him?
