Are we one of the worst-run teams in the league?

Having a winning tradition or winning a championship doesn't automatically put those teams above us automatically in terms of better run; for the simple fact that ownership, GMs, HCs change.  The Patriots were the Browns of the league before Rob Kraft bought them in 1994.  Because of this, and the fact that some teams were founded in 1919 and others in 1996, IMHO you have to look at periods of time.  With things like Hurney at helm, the fire sale we went on before the lockout, and with our consistency of play from year to year, I would say for the past 5-6 years we're below average in terms of how we're run, but we aren't the worst run organization in the NFL.  Heck since 1999, the browns have had 20 different guys start at QB.  That's horrid.

A lot of people tossing the Cleveland Browns into this pile. I gotta wonder just how bad they are run if their fans are some of the most loyal in the history of the league?

They've had some issues at the GM level and gone through a myriad of head coaches over the past 20 years, but they gotta be doing something right if the fanbase continues to fill their stadium and they don't have a PSL plan as the Panthers do. They still sell single game tickets and offer a season ticket package and manage to average 67k per home game.

As for the Panthers... I pretty much made my mind up not long after the entire "pie chart incident" and Jerry Richardson leading the charge for the lockout. And I was typically pro-owner prior to this time. Since then I've separated myself emotionally from the Panthers and I see the entire business through a different set of eyes. It was only about 16 months ago when we moved to eastern NC and now are we hearing just how disliked Jerry Richardson is in this part of the state. You wouldn't even want to hear the language used to describe him coming from grown, very successful businessmen and women in the Rocky Mount/Wilson/Greenville areas.

I would argue that the panthers are in the 15-17 range. They are about average, the same as their record has been since their inception. People seem to forget that although they do not have back to back winning seasons they also have had very few horrible seasons. It just so happens that they are in the middle of a bad streak right now (minus the anomaly last year). Hopefully it doesn't last as long as the 49ers streak. Remember up until 3 years ago, it was 10 years without making the playoffs even with the division winner finishing 8-8.

This is about how I feel. Panthers are nearly even in win-loss, just many 4(or less) wins seasons as the 12 wins one. Plenty of 8-8, 9-7, and 7-9 ones.....add it all up; just average.

I do know its very hard to win in the nfl. Pats are the super rare in the success of being a winner year after year for 10+ years running. Their are plenty of teams that have struggled for 20+ years. Both there are many factors in the "success" formula, just what's important to you? Turning a profit? Win/loss record? Many sponsors? Superbowls? Jersey sales? Psl sales? People wanting to work for you? Getting to playoffs? Drafting well? Etc etc

To me that just means that they have a good fanbase, not evidence that they are a well run organization.  The fans of the Chicago Cubs and Buffalo Bills always show up too but they are not well run.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

I give the fans a lot more credit than just being game watchers. I think fans are well aware of their team's ownership and I think they are much more in tune to how the organization is being run. I also believe fans will show their collective displeasure of the organization's management.
