Sporting News projects that Rivera will be fired on Black Monday (Dec 29)

Firing Dave in no way would be the single dumbest move.

It actually doesn't have any real negative outside of the fact you MIGHT be firing someone who COULD do a good job. You don't know he will....there isn't a real setback to the organization outside it delays you jumping on a new HC immediately

I have a Dave bias. Pretty much have from the get go. I admit that. Don't like him.

2 GMs gone in less then two years?  You don't think it would have a negative impact?  You don't think it would lose us respect in league circles?

Not sure about that.

I just dont see how Rivera keeps his job. Its not the talent Im worried about its the lack of system and game time choices that deserve to be looked at. Hell Fox was let go after being one of the most successful coaches in Carolina.

If they bring him back, it will either be because they are incompetent or because JR is really that worried about a few million dollars. There's no way competent management could actually think Rivera can get the job done after seeing the way he's handled everything this season.

As much as I want Ron out of here. I find it hard to believe that JR is going to eat the next 2 years of that 3 year extension that we just signed him to. My gut tells me that Shula will fall on the sword and Ron survives for another season. Hopefully i'm wrong.

Gettleman is safe. Not going anywhere. JR hired him to get us out of the cap mess that we are in. This is what that looks like. I have no problem with Gettleman. That $13 Million to Hardy was a gamble that obviously didn't pay off.

It was going to be tough for Ron to survive this period. If he could have eeked out a  8-8 or 7-9 record this year I would have wanted him back. At this point it looks like he has lost the team.

Not that I agree with it, but I think Rivera gets one more year as long as he's willing to fire Shula and Rodgers and replace them with assistants that meet Dave Gettleman's approval. Up to this point, I think Rivera has had full control of his coaching staff and those days are over.

Understand, but we were really firing him as a GM.

Regardless of why, he was fired with eight years and a lot of dollars still due him.

When you look back at the records, John Fox is the only head coach that's lasted more than four years here.  A big part of that is likely because he took the team to a Super Bowl in his second season.  he had that to fall back on during losing seasons, none of which by the way were as bad as this year.

I seriously doubt Rivera's record last year, especially given the embarrassing playoff loss, gives him enough capital to save himself from this season's disaster.  And make no mistake, this is not just a losing season.  It's an absolute embarrassment.
