Johnny "College" Football: "I have to take this [poo] more seriously"

Lol.  Not quite Panthers related, but sort of is.  We helped give him a nice "Welcome to the NFL" and huge bitchsmack of reality.

The Cleveland Browns still have one more game to play, but Johnny Manziel is already thinking about next season.

Sidelined by a hamstring injury after just six uninspiring quarters as the team's starting quarterback, Manziel told reporters Tuesday that he wants to be "the guy" in Cleveland.

"I have to take this a lot more seriously. It's a job for me now," Manziel said, vowing to spend more time in Cleveland this offseason than he did during last summer's bikini-filled, Gronk-inclusive, celebrity-fueled jaunt across America.

"I'm not the guy that I've always been," the rookie said. "I'm not the Johnny Manziel that came in here a year ago."

Acknowledging that he hasn't "painted the greatest picture" of "staying on top" of the job, the former Texas A&M star promised that the "college mindset" he embraced for much of his debut campaign "is absolutely faded from my mind."

What's woken Johnny? Perhaps the realization that Cleveland's front office might already be considering other options at quarterback. Maybe a veteran passer, maybe another draft pick -- maybe the reanimated form of Otto Graham brought back to consciousness -- but something to save this team's two-decade-long debacle under center.

Outside of his frantic scoring drive against the Bills, Manziel showed no hints of being that savior during his brief stint as an NFL starter. Still, the first-round passer with the sky-high Q-rating and subterranean Total QBR score believes he deserves another shot.

"I don't think it'd be fair," Manziel said, "to give up on somebody after seven quarters of football."

That's a fair point. We'll find out this offseason if the Cleveland Browns agree.

Hey Johnny, maybe you could give DA a call.  Now that's a guy who takes this poo seriously.

Cleveland was dumb to play him when they did to begin with IMHO

Yes, Hoyer had been bad recently. Well, at least Hoyer had a decent sized body of work with some success to go off of. They could have rode it/him out.  However, Cleveland appeared so ready/dumb to make a media splash (usually the sign of a bad team), they pumped a seemingly unready Manziel into the line up; where even Cleveland fans were cheering when he got hurt against the Panthers on Sunday. That's how bad, unready he's been. :phew:

Yes, I think the Cleveland Brain trust (can we ever call them that) holds some responsibility.

Though he's easy to pick on. I don't place it all on an unready Manziel. He just wasn't ready. It's not like Hoyer was hurt and could play (as far as I know).

can johnny get more that 6 quarters of football please?

His entire team sucked in his first full start.

He didnt play that bad against us.

6 Quarters.. thats it. Thats not fair for him.

He played awful the Browns couldn't get anything going on offense with him he is way over his head in the NFL he simply doesn't have what it takes to be an  NFL QB - I wouldn't even want him to be my back up, he doesn't have it, the NFL is not college

When Hoyer came in I was like oh poo cause that guy can at least find his best reciever Josh Gordon, Gordon couldn't even make Manziel look good

    • If we lose tomorrow we’d have to sweep the Bucs in order to get into the playoffs. With a loss tomorrow the Bucs would then hold the tie breaker if we finished tied If we can’t split with NO then we sure as hell not sweeping Tampa It’s win or go home tomorrow in my eyes  Biggest game since 2017 playoff game imo
    • Grok AI: No, there are no credible reports that the Carolina Hurricanes offered Jake Guentzel the same contract terms as Tampa Bay (7 years, $63 million total, $9 million AAV) before he signed with the Lightning. Reliable sources, including The Athletic, consistently reported that Carolina’s offer during negotiations was an eight-year deal worth $64 million ($8 million AAV). Guentzel did not accept it promptly, leading the Hurricanes to trade his negotiating rights to Tampa Bay on June 30, 2024, for a 2025 third-round pick. He then quickly signed the 7x$9M deal with the Lightning on July 1, 2024. Guentzel himself later reflected (in 2025 interviews) that staying in Carolina was his initial preference, but negotiations stalled and “didn’t work out,” with Tampa’s opportunity becoming a “no-brainer.” No reports from outlets like ESPN, NHL.com, or insiders (e.g., Elliotte Friedman, Pierre LeBrun, Frank Seravalli) indicate Carolina ever matched or offered the Lightning’s exact terms—total money, AAV, or length. The extra year was Carolina’s key advantage, but they reportedly stuck closer to $8M AAV and moved on when Guentzel explored options.
