Why is Russell Wilson a better quarterback than Cam Newton? - Seattle Times

so if Cam is so much of a better QB than Wilson...then why is Wilson the winningest QB in his first 3 seasons?  Why is he the only QB to run for a 100 and throw for 300 in the same game?

not trying to stir the pot...just trying to get some perspective from an other teamer!

What??????? I guess more of the same untrue narrative. Just keep pleasuring Wilson while telling everyone that Cam is a criminal. You can give compliments without having to tear down other players. Smh. They are a very insecure fan base. They shouldn't be though. They have a good team and RW is a good QB. Inferiority complex is ruling here.

Regardless of what other stuff gets tossed around regarding Seahawks fans, that is, in general, a true statement. Plenty of Hawks fans complain incessantly about East Coast bias in NFL reporting, or about the NFL being biased against them and in favor of the "legacy" teams. And in the past, there probably was some merit to those accusations. In the last couple of years, though, there has been less and less basis for those accusations as the Seahawks have become one of the top teams in the league, with the press coverage to show for it. But the old habits die hard, so they still continue to take offense easily, even if the reasons are no longer really valid.

Wilson gets labeled as a tireless worker with high football IQ. I don't see it. I see a guy that can't fit the ball into windows so he starts running around in circles until the defense leaves a receiver wide open.

You ever have a friend do that in madden? They can't hit guys in stride so they run around like idiots and try to complete a pass when the receivers come back to the ball.

His 5'11" frame is a gift in that he can change directions much faster than the lineman. Cam has to break tackles and lose his momentum which gets him piled on.

Wilson does do a lot of things well. He's a terrific player. But his squeaky clean image in a myth. There are stories about him in Raleigh and even rifts in his own locker room.

As far as Cam is concerned. I feel like we are wasting his youth. He should be learning to pass in a passing offense. Shula might be helping him off the field but on it there isn't a clear progression from his rookie year to present. His running ability is diminishing via injury and his passing game is not improving.

I'm really tired of this picture that the media paints of Cam.

For starters, Russell Wilson is labeled as mature and Cam is labeled as a diva. The last time I checked, the Seahawks are the one's that had a divided locker room this year (which Wilson was at the center of), not the Panthers. But hey, let's paint a picture of Cam that displays him as a player that wastes his time and has had everything handed to him.

Wait a minute though, didn't Cam get arrested in college, turn his life around, win two national titles (JUCO/NCAA), get accused of committing an NCAA violation, get drafted first overall, set tons of records, have a sub par 2nd season, lead his team the playoffs the next year, injure his ankle, break his ribs, get in a serious car wreck....

And is now playing at an elite level with the city of Charlotte in his corner (all while being somewhat injured).

The man has faced more adversity in 25 years than some will in their entire life (most likely this journalist) and on top that the media has decided to single handily put his life under a microscope and criticize him for every little thing (even the way he dresses). After re-reading what I just wrote, that doesn't sound like a spoiled kid to me. That sounds like a fighter.

Secondly, Cam is labeled as erratic, crazy, and a time waster. Well that's news to me. I didn't realize that spending time conducting 7v7's for local HS kids, buying kids Christmas gifts, buying families Turkey's on Thanksgiving, or working at soup kitchens were tendencies of a crazy, time wasting individual. Oh and let's not forget, he also finds time to be a franchise quarterback.

It's time for the media to realize that Cam's persona isn't a slight at them, their organization, or whatever team they cover.

His first down celebration, his superman pose, his contagious smile, his funny interview cliches, his impersonation of MJ (towel over the head).... it's not for the media.

It's for the fans of the Carolina Panthers and the city of Charlotte and I'll be damned if some asshole is going to influence my opinion on Mr. Newton due to a piss poor article like the one I just read.

As for Wilson being better than Cam (as the article suggests), we'll see come Saturday evening.

Maybe one of the most well written posts I've ever read on the Huddle and far superior to anything I've read from a journalist...well done, my friend

Great honest post. We definitely aren't a "legacy" team. Lol

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
