Time for G man to get to work

The upcoming season will show us if we have a stud or a dud as a gm.  Time for big Dave to toughen up and work some real magic cause I  dont think Rivera is coach enough to take us to the superbowl with simply good players - we have to have guys who are balls out for real and we will still have to get a lot of them on a short budget.  That said  he will have a little money to work with this year- lets see what kind of team he brings us in 2015.  I also hope he leans on Rivera hard enough to make the coaching changes we are all hoping for.

Two words.. No three.. Larry Fuggin Fitzgerald.. That is all, carry on.

Most likely too pricey.

If anything I see us going after (a sorry) Receiver like Crabtree. One good year, under performed, can actually catch a pass thrown at him, relatively young and might be had at a reasonable price.

I can see us going after Justin Hardy in the 2nd or 3rd for his hands/route running/return abilities.

Above all else I want a competent O-Coordinator. While Shula wasn't given much to work with, his playcalling is just downright abysmal. When we run well, he decides it's time to pass. When we throw well, it's time to run. 3rd and 2? dial up the deep ball. 3rd and 14? Draw with Tolbert. It's like he hits "Ask Madden" every damn play. I'm tired of him.

We need some new blood running that damn offense. Chud's a position coach. We could grab his ass back if he promises not to go full retard again. Chud had his moments, but his offenses could actually score some points. Now that the Defense we have is relatively solid, we could actually field a competent team on both sides of the ball. Couple Chud with a QB coach that can really work on the nitty gritty with Cam and I think we can go a long way in the future.

Also we need a new ST coach but that goes without saying.

Gettlemen has already shown me that he is a stud.  Do you realize how many players who were starting today were players he found?

Norwell (Undrafted FA)

Brown (undrafted FA)

Remmers (Minnesota PS)

Boston (4th round draft pick)

Binwikere (5th round draft pick)

Benjamin (1st round draft pick)

Turner (3rd round draft pick)

Harper (free agent)

Colin Jones (free agent special teamer)

Colin Cole (free agent out of retirement)

Jericho Cotchery (free agent)

That is 11 players--HALF of the starters were players Gettlemen found with no cap space--just good drafting and bottom fishing.

Key contributors (non starters):

Fozzy Whitaker (free agent wanderer)

Kevin Love (free agent practice squad)

Kony Ealy (2nd round draft pick)

I am sure there were others I have missed.  Gettlemen has already done enough to convince me that he is solid.

I would gladly welcome Chud back

When need to get more explosive on O. Good teams like the Seahawks know how to beat you in more than one way.

They can slow down and pound you with Beast Mode. Or they can quick strike like they did a couple times tonight.

We don't have that ability. The only way we beat teams is to march down the field on ninety five minute, 1,786 play drives.

If only we can find a way to mix Chud's and Shula's best qualities...

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
