Cam's Most Important Offseason Yet

Cam Newton has been anointed as the franchise QB of this team, therefore he has no issues and Huddle posters are forbidden from placing any blame or call out any weaknesses on his part.

Cam Newton, in my opinion, is a ridiculous athlete with above average QB skills. His accuracy is atrocious (second worst in the league according to PFF), the Auburn read-option is holding him back, his mechanics and footwork are horrible. All of these issues can be coached up and the offensive identity of this team can also be coached up. Whatever happened to the good ol' I-formation like Seattle runs?

Who is saying he has no issues?

I can't think of many 4th year quarterbacks who haven't had at least one area in their game that they could improve on.

Newton knows what he has to work on. A full offseason should do a lot of good for him. He didn't have that opportunity last year.

Also, in just blindly throwing out statistics or rankings, it would be helpful if you considered all the factors.

For us to take the next step, Cam has to take the next step.

Cam isn't what's holding this team back from taking the next step.

Before the season started many of us knew what our weaknesses were. The OL, WR and Safety spots were all glaring holes. This past saturday everyone saw those weaknesses get exploited.

We have a great foundation imo now, and in order for us to take the next step it's starts with addressing those 3 positions. Do that, and I think 2015 will be a good year!

Everyone blames Tolbert for that drop, but if Cam puts even the slightest bit of touch on the ball it's a huge gain.

Maybe Cam can study Russel Wilson tapes to learn how to throw blooping wounded ducks that defenses can't see.

thank you I wasn't sure how it was spelled and glad you like it also however would it be your first choice ? I've heard many here say west cast with our personnel would fit better

We definitely don't have the right personnel for a WCO, and outside of his mobility, I'm not sure Cam's skill set fits it.

This needs to be the big transition year for Cam.  If he's ever going to show case being a top tier QB (elite is way over used) in regarding to making plays and winning games, then this is it.  If he doesn't do it this year, I'm not sure how he will get better.  Will it be coaching?  Game Planning?

I still feel like Cam can be that guy, and I think he's going to make that turn for us in 2015.  He kind of has to =)

He's not a franchise QB. His accuracy, footwork, and decision making are not elite. Can he get there. Yes. Is he, no.

f'n eh.  Neither is Peyton Manning.     Did you watch that game yesterday?  He was sailing more balls than Cam could hope to do in 3 games.

Ball hits receiver in hands.  Receiver drops ball.  Blame QB....  Seems legit

Cam does need to work on some things, but there's nobody to blame but Tolbert on that play.

I agree. The ball needed to have velocity. He fit it between two defenders, hit the big man in the chest. That was an incredible throw. He was getting hit as the ball was released too.

Top tier is nice......but,  not needed for the Panthers to win games.    I'm more concerned about our LT situation and our #2 WR situation,  than I am on the thought of if Cam can be top tier or not.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
