Speculation is that it's over Peyton Manning's uncertainty.

Peyton was the head coach anyway. Fox hasn't coached anyone since leaving here in 2010. (Puts in new piece of gum, claps hands, walks away.)

I read that but didn't put much stock in it as that would be a...let's say odd reason to basically quit his job. Also wouldn't look good on his resume going forward...assuming he still wants to be a head coach....?
