Will Josh Norman command a big contract next offseason?

Some of you amaze me. Thread after thread someone is complaining about the back end of our defense. We finally have that player (though it took a couple years to develop) and now we think he isn't worth paying for.

Hopefully, DG is going to get a solid deal done with him but make no mistake. Norman as important of a player for the defensive backfiield as CJ or Star is for the DL, Luke for the LBs.

Figure out a way to pay him for another 5 yrs or so and let him retire a Panther.

Having had long conversations with Josh I think he will accept a reasonable contract and stay in Carolina. Josh is ego driven, not money driven. He wants respect and validation more than money, which is rare in a pro athlete.

He is one of the most entertaining cats I've heard on any podcast, ever. Good stuff jno24.

Is anyone else not quite as worried about TD's age given the circumstances of his career? I'm not saying that we should treat 33 year old Davis like 30 year old Davis, but part of me wonders of he's not still peaking, in part due to the fact that he sat out almost 3 full years. He certainly doesn't look like he's slowing down.

If I had to guess, I think Davis will sign a team friendly deal to finish his career in Carolina next year.  He might not be a starter anymore in 2016, but he should still have a role.  Hoping Olsen does the same...would hate to see Cam's most reliable target walk out the door.  At 31, Olsen should still have plenty of game left in him.

Cam Newton

Luke Kuechly

Greg Olsen

Thomas Davis

Mike Tolbert

Josh Norman

That is a scary list of free agents coming up next year. Hopefully we can:

1. Sign Newton to a long term franchise QB contract. 7 years $110 mil or something like that. Whatever it takes really.

2. Pick up the 5th year option on Kuechly so we can space out the spending between Cam and Luke.

3. Give TD a reasonable 2 year contract so he can retire a Panther

4. Sign Olsen to a 4-5 year contract if the price is right (Olsen worries me the most, as we might not be able to afford him)

5. Extend Norman this year while he's still cheap as it's looking like he's going to continue to establish himself as a premiere corner next year

6. Let Tolbert walk. I love him, but we haven't used him effectively since he's been here and he'll be 30 next year.

That's my 2 cents anyway.

I'm hoping we can alleviate some of that by drafting an LB this year and start grooming a replacement.

Do you think he'd sign a contract extension this offseason or is it even worth it given his history?  No doubt they could get him cheaper now than later.

    • I’m pretty sure we did end up getting the first in that drive, but I don’t remember. It was obviously a catch the ball didn’t move
    • While I don't think NFL games are fully rigged, it's certainly closer to a scripted outcome than we all think. The NFL by their own admission in court is not a fair and balanced sporting event. It is a managed entertainment product, a "spectacle" as they've put it, that now has sports betting as a huge financial pillar of their business model. It's ridicuously naive to still think the NFL isn't using referees to manage the games towards certain outcomes, using "replays in the booth" and overturning calls, choosing to overlook penalties at critical moments and calling questionable and sometimes phantom game changing penalties at other critical junctures of games. The NFL has always done this going as far back as the '60s, and they were investigated by the FBI in the '70s which found a large number of ownership groups had ties to the mob. So when the overwhelming majority of the moneyline bets were on the Panthers vs the Saints last week, and suddenly we see some strange and ticky tack penalties we've rarely seen called on the Panthers all year, I just know there's more going on behind the scenes. And suddenly next week, the Panthers will probably be nudged to a win, to keep the NFC South race interesting, as I see the Bucs are the favorite as of now and most moneyline bets will trend towards the Bucs until during the game when the Bucs are leading heading into the 4th quarter, and the Panthers are nudged to a win. At least, that's what the NFL and Vegas probably want to happen.
