As a State fan, I don't think that is necessarily true. Even though it is a heated rivalry, it is hard not to respect the man. He is largely responsible for the ACC's rise to power and brought about some impactful changes in the league and sport. The thing that I most respected about him was that he truly seemed to care a great deal about his players and I don't think that was disingenuous unlike some of the modern coaches. I really believe/believed that he strived to make his guys not only the best basketball players but the best people that they could be.

Sadly, I don't believe there will be too many more like him in the landscape of college athletics. RIP Dean.
