Bargain Free Agent: WR Denarius Moore

"Moore provides a speed threat at receiver and a much-needed spark in the return game. At a fresh 26-years-old, Moore..provides good size (6-0, 200) and has untapped potential ... Moore has inconsistent hands at times but his speed and return ability make him an attractive buy-low option. Moore might be the definition of low-risk, high-reward.

Projected Contract: Two years, $3 million ($1 million guaranteed)"

Receiving Stats over last 5 yrs:

Tennessee (SEC)

age 22 (2010) - 981 yds, 9 TD - 20.9 yards/rec

Raiders

age 23 (2011) - 618 yds, 5 TD - 18.7 yards/rec (#3 in NFL)

age 24 (2012) - 741 yds, 7 TD - 14.5 yards/rec

age 25 (2013) - 695 yds, 5 TD - 15.1 yards/rec

age 26 (2014) - only started 2 games

2011 Combine: Moore ran a 4.43 forty with a 36 in vertical

2011 Tennessee Pro Day: Moore ran a 4.39 forty

this was written about him a year ago:

"Moore is unlikely to see even half the playing time he has over the past three seasons. ... Given his production and speed, he would make a nice trade target for a receiver needy team. Someone like the Carolina Panthers, who have nothing but a raw rookie, aging slot receivers, and untested practice options squad to throw to, Moore is a perfect option.

...

(Raiders GM) Reggie McKenzie will likely seek a 6th round pick, since Moore is young, has proven talent, and has good starting experience. It may seem silly to send off a starting receiver, but the Raiders would be wasting his talents and letting him waste the final year of his rookie contract on the bench ... While keeping a starting caliber receiver around as a depth piece may seem like a smart move, its best to let him move on to..gain some compensation in return."

Saints blog that wants the Saints to sign Denarius:

"[with Colston due $9.7 million for next season and Robert Meachem turning 31], I like the team to search for a wide receiver in free agency, but not a high caliber player [like Jeremy Maclin]. A guy like Denarius Moore, who has largely fell victim to his own environment (Oakland), could be a good fit for the Saints offense."

    • I think Indiana will win it all but Miami should give them a much better fight than Oregon did.
    • When I tell people I was at that game, they usually say oh that’s so cool you had the experience. I call it soul crushing. Why? The weeks and months leading up to it were great, the team was fun to watch every week…some weeks the offense was unstoppable and carried the team (saints and giants road games), other times the defense carried the load (jaguars, tampa). Lots of back and forth games against good teams (Seattle and Indy). Good young players on the team, but the veteran leadership was incredible…from Cam, Olsen, Kalil and J Stew to Luke, TD, Norman, Tillman, Jared Allen, CJ. Role players like Fozzy Whitaker, Cotchery (he caught that MFer), Philly brown, Kyle love, AJ Klein, and so on.  The Friday before the nfc championship my wife and I after a few drinks said let’s see what prices look like for flights/accommodations and we got to talking about how much prices would increase if we waited until we found out if we would be in the big game. We said screw it, we are only out $200 if we have to cancel.  Of course we come out and just pulverized the cardinals in front of the most raucous crowd by far we’ve ever had. We had no idea what we would do for game tickets and then found out a neighbor who worked for the team could get us 2 for face value (each employee got two of their own for free, something cool that JR did).  But then the NFL mafia decided that the storyline of manning going out on top like Elway would give them more goodwill than a non traditional QB who didn’t connect with their target demo and the rest is history. I never have and never will watch that game again. I am just hoping I can see them win one in the 2nd half of my life.
