No surprise, still a dumb move by panthers. We paid 13 mil for one game and will lose an elite DE to UFA with nothing in return. We groomed him and got nothing in return. This is all due from media press over an issue hardy was dismissed of all charges. This couldn't of been handled any worse by us. Absolute worst case scenario.

what do you suggest doing

Why would he be, as some seem to think, out for revenge? What does he have to be mad about? He got paid by us to do nothing, even after we placed a franchise tag on him. We got the short end of the stick, Hardy didn't.

People just get off thinking about that kind of drama.  That's all.

there's nobody in the NFL that would be a trade partner for a tagged player with a possible suspension hanging over his head. what was the last big tag and trade anyway? matt cassel?

that'd be even dumber than just letting him walk because it'd be a virtual guarantee that we'd be carrying his cap hit all year.

And if he signed the deal and no one traded for him, we'd be on the hook for 13 million for him again, guaranteed no matter what.

This, when our cap space right now is estimated to only be around 14-15 million.

That'd be a ridiculously dumb move.

Easy sign him back, have alot of loop holes in new contract that depend on behaivor. If he screws up again then trade him. That way we at least get draft picks.

Alot of players in nfl have had second chances.

To let him go and get nothing in return is effing stupid. He is way to valuable. Front office has no balls when it comes to bad press.

    • He has attempted 8 shootout goals in his NHL career and made 1. He is among our worst SO guys on the entire roster in terms of career stats.
    • Against Miami, the Panthers were behind by 17 in the 2nd quarter facing a 4th - 5. Young completed a 21 yard pass and they went on to score 7 on that drive. Then in the 4th, down by 4, they faced a 4th - 5 and again, he completed a 17 yard pass and they went onto score a TD for the win. He also accounted for 2 of the 3 TD's.  As I said, he got them in that mess and no doubt, Rico gets credit as well, but missing on either of those 4th down conversions hands the ball over and results in 1 or 2 less TD's giving them a loss. As you said though, that's just a small quibble. The real question is how does the FO see it?  I am guessing they see it as something to build on. I think most peope here see it as a total loss and fully expect the FO to see it that way as well. Time will tell.
    • Kochetkov is just too streaky. TBD if Freddie is doing that too. Freddie is the more reliable goalie over his career. The Bussi kid looks like he could be a solid #2 eventually.  Just need to figure out the #1 guy. Same as almost every year. It's not talent, it's consistency and being able to step up in the playoffs.
