Todd Gurley to visit with the Panthers

Gurley is one of those picks that if the Panthers made in the first round the pundits would shake their heads but if he went to New England or Seattle or Baltimore in the first round it would get an A+.

Stewart isn't getting younger and has an injury history and we've seen how important the running game still is in the NFL. If his knee is alright he's a top 15 talent and the best RB in the draft. I'd be all for it, especially if he somehow fell to round 2.

 

Gurley would be a nice fit here. He can take it to the house on one play from the other side of the field. Panthers don't have anyone like that. 

 

But I agree with you ...if we draft him in the late first, I can hear it now from the "analysts" and "experts"...OH MAN WHAT A WASTED PICK HE DOESNT HELP AT ALL but if NE drafts him BELICHECK STRIKES AGAIN!

As for the BPA thing, I really think people are oversimplifying it. Gettleman also said we considered a WR in just about every round last year, so I don't think it's as simple as checking off a list.

I'd be curious to hear your take on why so many highly drafted USC skill position players have failed to live up to their billing. What causes NFL teams to continue to miss in their evaluations?

Or is butthurt fan just butthurt?

 

Or the converse, which is a huge percentage of USC (Southern Cal) non-skill OL and DL do pretty damn well in the NFL.

 

But your suggestion is really only within the last several years. Remember how many RBs USC used to crank out year after year... they weren't called "Tailback U" for nothing.

By the draft we had Cotchery, Avant, Bersin, Underwood, and holdovers from the prior year in McNutt and King. Absolute garbage but it's not like he didn't at least try to fill the void in FA.

No issue with the meeting, even tho I'm against drafting RB in any rounds......except ajayi (like him just as much as gurley)or duke johnson in the mid rounds.

You know who I like, reaves. Yup I believe he can play in the nfl. Not as a true #1, but as #2/3 guy and can trust him.

We've been linked to both Gurley and Tevin Coleman recently.  Sure looks like we're taking a hard look at a RB early.  Almost certainly not #25 early, but looks like a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round could certainly be in play.

 

I'm not against it.  DeAngelo is gone now and this is very possibly Stewart's last season as a Panther too.  You can't count on him staying healthy anyway.  I'm not sure why RB as a need hasn't gotten more talk.

 

We want a dominant running attack.  Stew has an injury history and we all doubt he can run as hard as he did in 2014 for a full 16-game schedule. 

 

Tolbert?  Not an every down back and frankly, he is getting a bit sluggish--as he should for a back with this age and weight. 

 

Whittaker?  If Stew goes down, and I almost guarantee it, Whittaker would be the feature back for all intents and purposes. 

 

What would help this offense more than a LT or a WR?  Quite possibly, a stud RB.  We have Oher, and reason to think he will play LT, we have Ginn now, and maybe they want to Move Brown to #2 and Cotchery to #3 (Lot to be said about players not being rookies any more). 

 

Gmen is kicking the tires, thinking outside the box.  I hope he is thinking Gurley in the second, however.  Devalued position, injury--not in the first, please.

I don't trust them. That Bama OL is always dominant. Any decent RB looks like a monster there.

UGA RB haven't exactly been lighting the NFL on fire either, and last year they replaced Gurley with a true freshman and he seem to produce just as good.

What if we traded out of the first round and got a early second rounder and then took Gurley? I'd be okay with that especially if we got another second rounder next year out of it
