David Newton ESPN:

Rivera said personally he'd like to see Newton's deal done before the season.

"Personally, yeah, I would," Rivera said. "Hopefully, we get everything worked out together."

...

Rivera is confident that general manager Dave Gettleman and Newton's representatives will get "something positive done."

because it works in the Panthers favor... Cam would be total out of his mind to do so. Essentially the Panthers should be prove to him that they won't let him get destroyed next season. If they do, how do you think Cam will feel? smh... so there you have it! Not gonna happen!

I think G-man would want to as well, and it's Cam's side that's wanting to wait it out. Which honestly makes the most sense for Cam. Why sign a new deal after an injury-riddled year, when you lost every WR who'd caught a pass from Cam before? He'll likely have a comeback year, do well, and further increase his value. I'd say I'm pretty confident both sides want Cam to stay in Carolina.

I swear half this board does not know what a Franchise Tag is.

And the other half doesn't know what a holdout is.

If Cam truly wanted to sit out a year i'd bet a lot of money someone would still be willing to pay him the following season.

If Cam made it clear he'd rather sit out than play under the tag, I'm sure Gettleman rather trade him than use up a large junk of cap space on nothing... again.

    • I don't do locks lol. I just bet +1000 and up and can hit at a decent rate. Combine ml winners and team shots on target. Do better in champions league than anything else
    • Did not expect this from national media. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/10-best-nfl-defenses-2026-texans-seahawks-broncos 10. Carolina Panthers   Key additions: OLB Jaelan Phillips (FA), LB Devin Lloyd (FA), DT Lee Hunter (draft) Key losses: DT A’Shawn Robinson (FA) Don’t be surprised to see the Panthers, who ranked 15th in points allowed and 16th in yards given up last season, make the leap into the top-10 conversation in 2026.  They added two of the marquee defensive free agents in edge rusher Jaelan Phillips and linebacker Devin Lloyd. Cornerback Jaycee Horn is coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons. Carolina lost starting defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson in free agency but essentially replaced him with second-round pick Lee Hunter, who had 10.5 tackles for loss at Texas Tech last season.  Ejiro Evero, one of the NFL’s most respected defensive coordinators, has plenty of talent to work with.
    • unless you have a bonafide superstar at Qb you bring in competition every year until you do & or at the very least you want a legitimate plan B in case of an injury .the problem in Carolina is they know Bryce ayoung most likely could not actually win a real legitimate NFL Qb competition right now & if & when he did not win that aforesaid Qb competition it would not only be a major distraction but a setback to his overall development.& moreover once the fans realized they had a much better Qb on the roster it would be alot of public pressure to start the better Qb  ...just saying
