Rivera would like to see Cam signed long-term before 2015 season

And the other half doesn't know what a holdout is.

If Cam truly wanted to sit out a year i'd bet a lot of money someone would still be willing to pay him the following season.

If Cam made it clear he'd rather sit out than play under the tag, I'm sure Gettleman rather trade him than use up a large junk of cap space on nothing... again.

I can tell you exactly what a holdout is.

It's a tactic that has yet to be successful for the vast majority of players that have tried it.

Do i think he would? no, but some act as if he has no leverage, that's far from the truth.

There is exactly a zero percent possibility he would sit out an entire year. That was your argument about leverage. It's no argument. There are other arguments to be had about his leverage, him sitting an entire year isn't one of them.

Glad you had this talk with Cam.

My entire point is that Cam has leverage. Holdout is one of them regardless of whether or not he'd actually do it.

Team has leverage at this point.

Cam, if he has a great season, will get the leverage back.

5 wins is not what the agent wants on his guys resume when he sits down to negotiate.

You don't think Gman would point that out?  You better know he would.  Not in a bad way, but he would use it to try to keep the cap in good shape for sure

he could threaten to leave the NFL and play minor league baseball too. would you entertain that possibility?

Annnnnd here come all the "witty" posts from the fossils with nothing better to do...

So you think Cam would play under a one year contract for the next 3 years?

"We just want to see him pick right up where he left off," Rivera said. "One of the things we did to help him, once he was healthy and ready to roll, was to institute a no huddle. He seemed to handle that well. Starting from where we finished, we'd like to see him hone that skill."

^^^^^Biggest takeaway. The question is will Shula allow it.

i think my post did a good job highlighting the absurdity of your premise actually.  can you think of a big time franchise quarterback sitting out a whole year in recent memory?  i can't.  probably the closest we've come recently was carson palmer demanding a trade, mike brown refusing, palmer threatening to retire then failing to report to training camp, then the trade to oakland.

no i don't think cam would play under his fifth year option, then a franchise tag, then another tag.  i think he'd play under the first franchise tag and if he really, really didn't want to play here anymore, gettleman wouldn't force the issue and would let him walk.  because he's not stupid and he wouldn't put the team in that position.

He also wanted hardy back.  Well just have to wait and see.  I guess the positive tone is nice.

To be fair, if not for Richardson having the final say, we most likely would have found a way to keep him. Richardson, Gettleman, and Rivera all want Cam back, just a matter of time before Luck/Wilson signs their deal, and then Cam signs his.

And I agree with this. But there's a group here that thinks he's here for the next 3 years for sure and I don't think that's the case without a long term deal.

Like I said I don't think he'd actually sit out a year or do I think Gettleman would put himself in a situation like that. But Cam could force Gettleman to do something whether it's a long term deal or a tag and trade or let Cam walk.
