49ers Waive OT Jonathan Martin

Recommended Posts

No thank you. Anyone else remember the preseason game where Charles Johnson dominated Martin? It was kind of pathetic how bad he was

In Martin's rookie year? That means nothing.

Remember that Saints rookie OT Terron Armstead that Hardy made his bitch in 2013? He was one of the better tackles in the NFL last year.

I wouldn't mind he played good coming out of Stanford. I don't think he found an NFL team that he can call home yet or fits his play style. He reaches a lot of time and that's the reason his technique is poor. He might be worth a look on our roster and could end up being solid depth or potentially a starter.

last year:

Oher (age 28) - 11 starts (all at RT) - PFF rated 9th-worst OT

Martin (age 25) - 9 starts (all at RT) - PFF rated 60th of 84 OTs

Oher rated "the ninth worst grade of all tackles."

Martin "started nine games last season at right tackle for San

Francisco ... PFF graded Martin as a below - average run blocker and pass blocker, placing him 60th out of 84 qualified offensive tackles.

Still, at age 25, and with 32 career starts under his belt, Martin

could be a decent swing tackle for a team in need of depth at the

position"

I thought he had a decent year or improved his game last year. Also the 49ers play in a division loaded with great defense so that could be a major reason why his rating was so low.

If nothing else he would be great competition and offer solid depth at tackle which we don't have. He has experience and is probably more ready to start then someone we draft like Peat. He shouldn't cost much and since he was cut he wouldn't cost us a comp pick.

    • You do, the guy who doesn’t appear to grasp projection.  as the entire board knows, I do in fact, take positions.  The position here I have taken is that Bryce Young is a weak bottom tier starting QB, without NFL starting QB tools, that we must move on from.
    • The OP for one. Asserting that people blamed Bryce for the loss in the title of the thread. That was not the prevailing sentiment at the time this thread was created. Very much a minority thing, I don’t remember but maybe one person if that, putting it on Bryce as the main reason. Troll thread. Did a good job too. Look at the pages.  Someone counting up the draft picks as 10 on offense and 10 on defense or whatever the number was, today or yesterday - of which the offensive ones were heavily 1s and 2s and the defensive picks were heavily day 3 and declaring that proof that the offense wasn’t favored like people claim. The obvious neglect we watched for two years. I spent time refuting that bullshit because someone needed to.  People saying we are bad horrible people and hate poor lil Bryce for no reason, as if it is a personal thing. Constantly.   Along the same lines is people saying we non Bryce fans would rather lose than have him play well and the team wins. That we are mad when the team wins   Point illustrated.
