Greg Olsen goes toTwitter:

Baffles me every year to read how many rookies can't make it thru 1 unpadded mini camp bc "dehydrated"? You've had 4 months to "hydrate"?

The "ability" that separates most guys in this league is AVAILABILITY. A lot of guys can run fast and jump high. Learn to be relaiable

He doesn't mention our rookies specifically but I can't imagine him talking about other teams (why would he). OTAs and training camp are going to be fun...I see some vets stepping up in a way we may not have seen from them before.  In the Podast with Bene, Bene mentioned how TD was tough on some guys recently.  It could be that some of these older veterans see their personal windows closing and see a great opportunity this year to be successful and want everyone focused on the right things.

Lot of rookies around the league reportedly dealing with this kind of thing today. Think he was making a statement about all of them. Ours included of course, but he certainly wouldn't have said this if it was just ours. I also think he's sincere in what he's saying and isn't trying to axe grind some point. I think he's truly shocked by how many are experiencing it and felt compelled to say it. I agree with him, but in their defense, a lot of these guys are playing in new climates they've never experienced and the last week has been a whirlwind where they likely have strayed from their proper health routine and have sank into "travel life" diets.

He's speaking truth.  I can't imagine that not being one of the first things the trainers mention before hitting the field.  "Drink plenty of fluids, it's going to be hot and humid" is probably said first thing in the morning.  They're just being young kids though.  I remember being "invincible."

I tend to agree with him. How can you prepare your entire life to play pro football and end up getting dehydrated during your first pro workout.

I think it makes a bit of sense, especially for guys like Shaq and Funchess that played their ball in college in a cooler climate, and then come to Charlotte where it was over 80 today. That's a bigger change than I think a lot of people realize. Funchess grew up and played high school and college football in Michigan. Doubtful he played in games with the temperature over 80 on the regular. There's also a difference between working out and getting back into football shape. Obviously they were training heavily for the combine and draft process but I'm not sure that translates to being well conditioned in their first football practice after not playing for months. Funchess was reportedly worked pretty hard today... ran lots of routes and worked at different receiver positions all over the filed.

    • Agreed.  Unless a DE is a Julius Peppers type, it takes a couple of years to really develope.  I am hoping we can get one to go with Prince and Scourton.  Or another Interior Dlineman might work as well.
    • Great work Dan. This is the first time in a long time heading into day 1 of the draft that I don’t care which way we go.
    • I don't think it's about Bryce's ego. I think it's about Tepper's. Bryce was Tepper's draft pick. Everything that's been done has been to protect the image.  New HC with a shiny contract fired after he loses interest immediately after he supposedly drafted his guy. He can't make an offense for him because he's the QB that fits his style of offense. Bryce's rookie season is one of the worst in history. It was obvious he wasn't ready. He was named starter without any real camp competition. No real preseason reps. Coach keeps playing him despite terrible play.  A new coach and GM are hired on the condition that Bryce is the guy. No searching for a new QB. It's Bryce or else.  Bryce is benched year 2 for multiple games, replaced by Dalton who stunk it up proving he's washed up, then Bryce comes back in after Dalton injures his thumb and finishes the season. Dalton's contract is up, plenty of younger, higher upside FAs available. Dalton is brought back 2 years guaranteed as a "mentor". Jack Plummer, so bad in 24', brought back to camp in 25' and lo and behold, he's still terrible and has no business being on a field.  Other QBs brought in, the most recognizable being Hooker. All those brought in so bad even the PS can't hold them.  And now, after 3 years of bottom tier QB performance, with Dan saying we need to improve our QB room, we bring in a QB that's not passed for over 2500 yards in either of his 2 seasons as a starter, before he's benched and sent to the life of being a backup.  The common denominator in all of this is there's never been any real competition here, even when it was justified. After last year, it's debatable if he's starting QB material. Good moments and horrific moments. From one minute to the next, you don't know what you're gonna get.  So if you ask yourself why some of us feel bringing in KP is a joke, it's because it looks how it's always looked. That everything being done is to prove that David Tepper was right when he made the choice to draft Bryce and everything done since has been to protect that decision. Bringing in another QB with even the potential to challenge Bryce was always out of the question.
