EOY Best WR predictions?

Fast forward to the end of the year.  Will KB and Funchess be in the conversation of best WR tandems in the league?  And by "best", I really mean top 5ish that you can make an argument for as being one of the best duo's.

No, because of the way our offense is structured. We're a run-first offense and Olsen is going to be either the top target or 2nd to KB. I think Funch will be a huge help to our offense, but he's not going to put up 1,000 like KB did last year and make people think our WRs are top 5. But also, those are pretty damn high hopes for a 2nd year player and a rookie 2nd round pick. Remember the days (before 2014's rookie WR class) when rookie WRs needed time to adapt to the game and improve? Because of last year, the expectations for rookie wideouts are stupidly high, and a lot of fans will be disappointed this year. Honestly, only rookie WR I see going over 1,000 yards this year is Agholor. Cooper may based on volume, but he won't be as effective this year in my opinion as Agholor.

a shula run offens will never be among the top producing in the league.

 

esp. with a defense like we have that gives you short fields on a regular basis and the improved STs will probably help with that field postion that limits yardage, etc. points will also be low just because it is a slower run offense that eats up the clock and limits opportunities to score.

 

if we run more no huddle this year, that might change. until that happens and/or shula is gone i wouldn't expect more than olsen and one WR to have significant numbers.

Shula has never had a backfield this good, a line this good, or a receiving corps this good. I expect us to have a top-ten scoring offense.

the way he runs an offense takes tons of time off the clock on each possession. more time taken during possessions limits the number of possessions you can have during a game. limited possessions means limited scoring opportunities. limited scoring opportunities means limited points.

Works well for Seattle (they had top-ten scoring offenses in 2013 and 2014) and worked well for us in 2013. In 2013 we had the second-most time taken per drive (3:00), third-most plays per drive (6), tenth-most yards per drive (29.8) and points-per-drive (1.99) in the league.​ If Jonathan Stewart plays like he did towards the end of year, and our new receiving additions are even marginally competent, those numbers could be vastly improved.

​lol it always comes back to this. Getting praise from the media is mostly market exposure and image. We don't have enough. Until we win a few superbowls we'll get nothing. So annoying.

​I think some people don't realize that, just because we run ball control, doesn't mean we can't score a lot.  IIRC, last season we were able to move the ball very efficiently, between the 20's.  The big problem was, we weren't scoring TD's, we were settling for FG's... and missing some of those.  We also had our fair share of 3-and-outs, but that's not a product of a ball control offense, that's just lack of execution/talent.  

If we have the ball for 9 mins, and score a TD, then our defense forces a 3-and-out, we have an opportunity to score again in that quarter.  If you have a good defense, a ball control offense can still easily score 14+ points per quarter, depending on how good the opposing defense is.  Even if you just averaged 10 points per quarter, you're scoring 40 points per game.  That's a shitload of points, and it's not even remotely out of the realm of possibilities for a ball control offense.

We'll never have a high scoring offense because the Panthers would rather wear a team down with long drives versus quick strike scores.
