Tiny (Cool) Detail in Cam Newton's Contract

I've been saying for awhile I was going to be more active on the boards...clearly I've failed, but think this might be a good spot to share this. I'll try to do more of this sort of thing moving forward.

Bill Voth came on the show yesterday about 20 minutes before the contract became official. He basically said to watch the Matt Ryan deal as a benchmark for Cam's deal and that they wanted to get above Matt Ryan's deal.

The numbers work out perfectly overall and by average-per-year. Bill wouldn't say specifically why that was, but did mention part of it was wanting to be slightly above the deal based off performance and maybe other reasons were driving it too.

After poking around a little more today, it seems it was slightly personal from Cam's camp. Being from Atlanta, wanting to stick it to the Falcons and stick it to Ryan too. It doesn't seem it was a Cam thing as much as it was important to those in his corner. Deals are often written to a specific dollar amount for sentimental reasons (birthdays, area codes, etc.), but I love how even though Cam is from Atlanta and still spends time there, he and his camp are locked in here and have a nice little rivalry going with them. I think it shows with how well he plays in the Georgia Dome throughout his career.

Fun little tidbit I thought I'd pas along!

    • He wasnt asked to do much in the Ga Tech offense. Based on his highlights he's capable of 50 yard dimes which is sure as hell refreshing given what we're used to.
    • I noticed Canales commented on King having a live arm. Weinke coached him and said he could make any throw an NFL team would ask him to make.  His mechanics and general process of throwing looks a little wonky to me though. Haven’t really zoomed in on that though to say more.     Brazzell, his hands look at least decent to me and of course his speed is there.   Love his balance.  Like a cat, always comes down on his feet. Not his butt.
    • If Veabel is the father the name, unfortunately…. well you are looking at Mike Jr.    I feel bad for the husband And the kid though. Especially the kid who had no hand in anything and is just a victim.   Most people would develop some pretty big issues around the chaos of finding out nothing you were told about your father was true and you have been calling the wrong guy Dad.  And trusting your mother, well that is over too.     She should be permanently burned as a reporter or rumor reporter. Whatever she I was.    Who can trust anything she says?   Vrabel has outed himself as a total phony. No credibility whatsoever.
