If you are like me and love a power running game, you should be excited about Carolina Panthers rookie fullback Lee Ward out of Stanford. Listed at 5'11 and 246 pounds, Ward earned an offseason contract and camp invitation by impressing the coaching staff at this year's rookie camp. 

"A bruising, blocking fullback. Someone that opens up running lanes. A road grader." That is how Lee Ward described himself to me after practice recently. "It's enjoyable. I have no problem blocking ....

Not really sure how he gets a roster spot on the 53.

​taking brockel's place.

we need what this guy can bring. he won't be just an asset to the run game, he's also very good in pass pro. he's essentially a 6th guy on the OL.

i hope he sticks. the guy is incredibly impressive at what he does and we need what he brings.

I just checked - about 2,5 million - if I read it right.

​Yes. He's more of an offensive weapon like William Floyd was, especially in the red zone and on 3rd downs. It's no coincidence the Panthers were 1-7-1 in regular season games that he was injured in or on temporary IR for. With him healthy in the line-up, they went 6-1 and Shula was able to be less vanilla.

Still room for Ward on the team. We could also use a blocking fullback like Howard Griffith was for us. Brockel doesn't seem better than either Tolbert or Ward at what they do best, so the writing's on the wall for him.

tolbert is a multitool. good blocker. good receiver. good RB.

where he excels is in short yardage situations. the guy is a flat out beast.

we have a couple options that can be on the field at once for short yardage/goalline situations. you put him, cam, and 3 6'5 guys on the field and there's no reason you can't put that ball in the end zone.

then you add an OL that can block and another roadgrading FB back there and and it's a TD waiting to happen.

I'd love for us to get a road-grading "Lorenzo Neal" type fullback to block, with Cam being so large maybe we don't need a short-yardage back at Fullback but can get a blocker who excels in space on the outside so a guy like Fozzy can break loose

      It will be really interesting to see how both sides handle this. I'm sure the team would love to get him signed to a 4 year deal based on his output so far and some potential factored in, i.e. something like a 4 year $30 million contract.  But I could see his agent telling him the best path is to take the one year offer, put up a big year next year and then really cash in. The team also has to keep in mind T-Mac's 2nd contract, which likely will happen after the 2027 season assuming he keeps improving as expected.  Even if we could get him on a budget 4 year deal for what he could become, the problem then becomes when he wants to re-negotiate in 2 years during the same summer we will extend T-Mac, and you don't want to spend that much on WRs in one offseason, just see the Bengals this last year. Taking everything into consideration, I'm thinking the 1 year deal and then getting him to sign a 4-5 year deal after hopefully say a 800ish yard season next year might be best for our cap situation and separate his and T-Mac's negotiation periods.

      And yet jax made it no further than we did, and its very possible the Pats don't either. I think it speaks more to the overall down year for the nfl as far as having great/dominant teams, every team this year has fatal flaws that can be exploited

      Ehhh I agree the nfc is stronger this year but their really werent any truly dominant teams this year everyone is flawed, I think the narrative for the NFL this year will to try ahd force a Josh Allen SB win
