Funchess interview in The Detroit News

Funchess believes he can do damage with Benjamin, Panthers

In Carolina, Funchess will play opposite a receiver who proved last season that a 40-yard dash isn't predictive of success. Kelvin Benjamin, the Panthers' first-round pick in 2014, ran a 4.61, but finished his rookie season with 73 catches for 1,008 yards and nine touchdowns.

Funchess thinks he and the 6-foot-5 Benjamin should be able to make life hard for NFL defensive backs. Physically, Carolina's duo could become just as imposing as Brandon Marshall (6-foot-4) and Alshon Jeffery (6-foot-3) were for the Chicago Bears the last few seasons.

"We're going to be a dynamic duo, two 6-5 guys out there on the outside just making damage and causing havoc on the field," Funchess said. "You never see that type of duo in the league, two 6-5 guys on the outside that are athletic and that can run and go up and get the ball. Nobody has that wingspan in the league like us, so it's going to be fun during the season."

Tampa has that kinda of Duo (Jackson and Evans)   and i remember the 13'-'15' Bears having Marshall and Jeffery. Something makes me think were building the old SD offense.. remember when they had Jackson and all those trees...

lol one guy in tampa is old. and their TE isnt nearly as skilled as Olsen..

we rank supreme

One of our guys is in his second year, the other a rookie, and the TE just hit 1000 yds for the first time in his career. Its goods to be excited but lets calm down just a little. Those guys in tampa put a numbers with horrible QB play

Evans = Benjamin

Jackson > Funchess

Seferian-Jenkins < Olsen

Looks like a wash to me.  We might win out on WR depth which is almost an unheard of thing to say for Panthers fans.

Homer glasses off man, Olsen is the only thing we have over them in the receiver department. It's not Evan's fault that no one could get him the ball last year. Dude is a legit and complete receiver.

Evans also wasn't facing every teams  best  DB from the  start till the end of the season and also didn't see none of the double teams and rolled coverage that  Kb did..

    • That tells me OTs are gonna get drafted high. Theres a good crop of them though.
    • Ocho's feet were amazing hopefully he can teach the big fella something
    • Well done, MHS. I'm out in Seahawk country and they've been a fun team to watch. Hired their coach the same year as us, but went defensive minded. Fumbled the OC in year 1 but came back with a helluva hire this past year.  I basically want us to find our versions of Ernest Jones IV, Byron Murphy II and Emmanwori. DB is our Leonard Williams, but he needs a partner. I think Lloyd in FA can be our Jones and I don't know where to begin with Emmanwori as he and Hamilton are 1 of 1.  I also like the way they use a lot of 13 personnel and just grind teams into the ground on both sides of the ball. Give me Otton to add to our TE room who I'd have to think Canales and Idzik have an eye for.  Center and OT are our biggest question marks. I think R1 is OT and grab the best center on day 2.
