really trying to like this Newton guy...

What I really hate about analysts today is the fact that they require you to have talent all around you before you can be called elite. Forget that you carry a less than stellar offense, or the fact that you are one of the only reasons your team has had a chance to be competitive. Without Cam no one is even talking about us right now, even if we still had Luke.

"His 56.9 Total QBR last season ranked 18th and is one of many statistical elements that indicate he's far from an upper-tier quarterback."

Cam's QBR ranked 16th last year not 18th http://espn.go.com/nfl/qbr That's pretty solid, considering our O-line had Byron Bell, Silatolu, Velasco, and Chandler start most of last year along with having to adjust to a new set of WRs. And Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson, on much more talented offenses, ranked 11th and 12th in QBR.

Did y'all read the article?

But the truth of the matter is the Panthers' roster, or more specifically the terrible set of pass-catchers Carolina had last season, has held Newton back more than anything else.

The good news for Panthers fans is this: If Carolina's personnel upgrades at wide receiver pan out, Newton could close the elite on-field performance gap in a hurry.

    • I don’t know about floor in a team defense sense but we needed more.  The floor that I am familiar with is our QBs floor and it is so low that every other part of the team needs to be beefed up.     We tried our best to improve these things and I think we did improve the defense and we at least kept the offense  from sinking from no LT.  And ostensibly helped the receivers too.   So we kept a window open that we at least have a chance to improve our record by a game of two.  Which would probably give us the division.

    • Yeah. I am one of. those who think a JAG RB can eat with really good blocking. (Brooks is most important in my mind, in tbe passing game and that is what we’ll lose without him)  There are a lot of aspects to this. The big one that caused us to struggle is Young and his arm scared no one.  Best back, best blocking still cannot defeat a really good defense if they are not forced to respect the pass.  And teams did not.    But, a strong OL and running game Can get us over against weaker defenses.  And if Bryce still doesn’t scare anyone we can still win some games. Like last year  So it is really important to tend to that OL.   Get that straight and see if in his fourth year he can finally back defenses off. That is what if is all about this year to me, on the Bryce front.
