Michael Oher vs Frank Alexander

Oher didn't bend at the waist and anchored (even readjusted) with his feet. Definitely some shoulder holding going on. Frank lost any opportunity to battle with his hands by letting Oher get into him. Oher's set looks like it's straight back where Cam is suppose to step up. To me Oher did enough here.

doesn't look like a full pads practice to me, which makes sense. First practice after 6 weeks off should be about getting them back into the flow of practice. (and making a good show for the fans and reporters there if you're the cynical type)

if it's not a full pads practice, it doesn't count to me

Agreed and if I'm not mistaken the defender typically has the unfair advantage without pads on. That's why I watched the receiver drills on the other side of the field.... bc these pass rushing/blocking drills without pads isn't really going to show much.

I think in a game, he held Frank long enough to keep the pressure off of Cam and allow the play to develop. However, I think the keyword there is held. Notice how he grabs the upper part of the outside shoulder pad? That's outside of the zone where offensive linemen can put their hands, and would've probably been called a hold.

Not sure what y'all are watching or what y'all expected, but Oher won that.  He mirrored Alexander perfectly and didn't give up much ground at all despite getting bent back.  I like to see a guy get in a bad spot like that and fight through it.  That stuff is gonna happen from time to time and you have to be able to react and adjust.  That's what Oher did.  All of y'all would be fapping over Oher right now if he didn't get his head snapped back.

If refs called that as holding there would be flags littering the field on literally every snap.

I started out watching the big fellas, really wanted to see how both lines were doing. But realized that until they can truly tackle, it's not showing us much at all. Then I started watching the WR's & secondary.

But IMO Ohr won that battle, keeping Alexander engaged & not letting him escape the block. Moving the DE sideways is always better than letting him move you backwards. Always. Besides, the play probably would've been over in half that time, before Ohr grabbed the shoulder of the jersey.

Thanks, Jeremy, for the vine! Appreciate it! :)

Not knowing what the purpose or "play" was here, I would say that Oher did his job. He stayed in front of Frank. Not having a QB there to react to the pass rush hinders both the rusher and the blocker because neither have anything to play off of. All I can go off of is Oher's feet which look quick. Good first look to me but what do I know?

This is the first I've looked at Oher. Just wondering, is he a little on the light side? Looks pretty thin in that vine. At least smaller than most tackles I'm used to seeing.

He does look a bit smaller but the team site has him listed at 315. To put it in perspective, the Saints website has Armstead at 304.

    • Evero to the Raiders makes zero sense unless the OC he's pitching them is a failed HC who doesn't have interest in trying for it again. They're a team about to draft a QB #1 overall, developing him is job #1 for the new coach/staff.  Hiring a DC with a young up and coming OC wouldn't make any sense, because then you risk losing that OC to a HC job after maybe just a year or two and that young QB has to change system, play caller, etc. It's why hiring an offensive minded coach makes the only sense.  The Raiders have to make the right hire/pick with this HC hire and #1 pick combo because of that division they're in, it's a gauntlet and you can't screw up this opportunity.
    • 1. Sadly, it's just too early to tell with Icky. And the draft will have come and gone before we have anything, FA, too probably. Njiman was good, but there's dollars to be invested there as well. This is really our biggest puzzle to figure out. And Moton on the other flank is getting long in the tooth, too.  2. Coker: Pay the man WR2 money.  3. Most WRs take three years before you really know what you've got. We'll know for sure by the end of this one and he's still on a relatively inexpensive rookie contract. Now if someone comes calling for a good, good trade... 4. This is the make or break for good teams vs bad teams. And depth development is essential. We've had a bit of that but there isn't a spot on our line that doesn't have worries except for maybe on guard.  5. I think you draft the best ILB, the smartest one in the first round and don't look back. People lost their poo here on this board when we "wasted" a pick on Luke Kuechly.  6. Yeah, I think Chuba is a workhorse. But we need to be more decisive in his use. Still not sure Rico doesn't come back next season, too. He'll get to see the marketplace first, though, and we'll offer similar numbers to him.
    • I've grown to enjoy Mike & Tripp, even more so after listening to the ESPN, TNT, TBS hacks who, for whatever reason, seemingly don't know dick about the Canes.
