Here is a portion of the article:

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Peter King of Sports Illustrated and MMQB.com stopped by Wofford College on Saturday as part of King's annual training camp tour.

Panthers.com caught up with him to discuss the state of the Panthers entering the 2015 season.

First, King commented on the culture general manager Dave Gettleman and head coach Ron Rivera have worked to establish in Carolina:

"The one thing I like about both of these guys is that they want to do what they do well. They are going to set up a culture that they believe works.

"It was funny, I was talking to Dave Gettleman and I said, 'Hey, I was kind of critical of the reaches for Shaq Thompsonicon-article-link.gif and Devin Funchessicon-article-link.gif.' And he said, 'That’s fine. I know a lot of people were critical of us. But that’s the job. That’s the business.' There is a real maturity with the leadership here – ownership, management, head coach and the team leaders. It shows.

"When I look at it, I think the Panthers are there in terms of building a culture. I don’t think they are on the way. I think they’ve already built it."

King on how he views the expectations for the Panthers as they aim for a three-peat in the NFC South:

"People look at the NFC South as being this stepchild division right now. Nobody views it as one of the best divisions in football, even though those things change so quickly. Because people know how explosive the Saints are, because they know (Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan) is good and that (new Falcons head coach) Dan Quinn comes in with a really good pedigree as a defensive coordinator – I think everybody says those guys will take their rightful place and Carolina will be a 7-9, 9-7 type team.

"Last year was such a freaky year in this division. Totally weird. But if I were trying to pick this division, I would say those three teams (Carolina, New Orleans and Atlanta) are going to be extremely close to each other. I might pick Atlanta, but I don’t know.

"The other thing I’ll say about expectations in the NFL: In every offseason, every team appears to have improved, and everybody is optimistic. Honestly, you just look at how reality sets in during the first few weeks of the season. I think Carolina certainly could do it. I think the guys they drafted, notably Thompson and Funchess, are really going to have to contribute early."

"Hey, I was kind of critical of the reaches for Shaq Thompson and Devin Funchess."

If you needed any proof that both of these players will be studs, there you go.

He said that and then says Ron showed maturity by not calling him on it. Sounds like King's upset he didn't take the bait.

Blah, Blah, Blah, Peter King. Man thinks he knows everything about football. Says, "But if I were trying to pick this division, I would say those three teams (Carolina, New Orleans and Atlanta) are going to be extremely close to each other."

Blah, Blah, Blah, who really cares what you think. Not me. You never really seem to give the Panthers much respect. It's clear. Just leave.....

He's so keen on Shaq Thompson having to contribute early....why exactly is that?

The Panthers already field the best line backing duo on football and the defense as a whole performed very well the second half of last season. King is a fugging moron.

Yeah Shaq is probably our 2nd least important draft pick for this year. Having him be dominant aside Luke and TD would be a huge huge addition, but I don't think it's necessary at all for us to compete. I do believe though that for us to go further this year, CAP, Williams and Funchess will all need to contribute right away. Fozzy will be great in the screen game and a great occasional change of pace back, but we need a guy who can carry the load along with Stewart in between the tackles, and especially if Stew goes down. We don't have much outside of CAP to fill that spot. Wegher's intriguing but not quite sure he'd be a dependable in between the tackles kind of guy this soon. Funchess needing to improve our WR corps goes without saying, and everybody and their mother knows how bad our OT situation is so Williams playing meaningful snaps well is important for us. Mayo should hopefully make a contribution on special teams but he's not as important as Shaq. Kind of weird for such low expectations across the fan base for a first rounder, but I'm glad as hell that we don't have to be depending on a 1st rounder to contribute immediately. And this isn't at all saying that I think he won't contribute or that it'll take a while for him to make an impact. I think he'll have a huge impact immediately, I just don't think we NEED it out of him this year as King is suggesting.

Came in to post a similar response to Cary's...King's ignorance is on full display when he says things like that.  Thompson and Funchess "really contributing early" would be great of course, but that alone has very little to do with where we ultimately end up.

Peter King is like that huge crap you take and you think "Hey should I take a picture of this turd and text it to my bro's?" And you do it and everybody is like "Bro you're a fuging douche clown." and you're like yep they're right I'm a fuging clown and then you're like why did I photograph my poop.
