Not much in potential receiver cuts

As has been stated before, trading for a receiver in our situation probably isn't a very practical idea.  You're likely looking at trading for a three year contract when what you really want is a one year band-aid since Benjamin will be back next season and Funchess will have a year under his belt. So if anybody new is coming, it'll probably be someone found on the waiver wire after roster cuts.

With that in mind, I took a (very quick and cursory) look at receiver depth charts around the league to see if there was anyone interesting on the bubble.

The answer?  From what I can see, not much.

Names like Greg Salas (who's on his fifth team) and former Panther Tavarres King (who was cut early last year) dot the landscape of 5s, 6s and beyond.  Not exactly exciting prospects.

One name I did find mildly interesting: Tyler Murphy, a former QB from Boston College (started at Florida) who the Steelers are trying at receiver.  He's looked decent in preseason action but might not make the final roster.

To be honest, if you were looking for a savior to come from other team's cuts, you were likely gonna be disappointed anyway.  Barring any surprises, the most you can hope for is depth, and even that prospect doesn't really appear to hold anything all that great.

So basically, if you're waiting for someone to come in and make everybody forget Corey Brown, I wouldn't hold my breath.  Anything can happen, of course, but it looks highly unlikely.

Brown blows. His performance would get him cut on any other competent franchise with aspirations of winning. With this team, who knows?

I'd rather bring back Keary Colbert, Drew Carter or even Dwayne Jarrett than run this guy out on the field for another play.

DG should be getting the best possible receivers he can get. At this point, it shouldn't matter if the contract is more than 1 year as long as the money is reasonable. Whats wrong with keeping them more than a year anyway? Keeping a really good group of WRs together for more than a season should be a good thing anyway. What are you going to do when 1 of your top guys goes down again anyway? You'll be in the same situation again.

It is possible the Eagles cut Cooper, the Skins cut Garcon (who would not be good with Cam) and the Rams will have to cut a decent WR (or stash one on IR)  Baltimore and KC should send vets packing.  I look for a veteran or 2 to be cut to save $$ if a rookie has shown well.  There have been 2 deep WRs classes in the past 2 drafts, so I expect some surprise cuts in cap-saving moves.

If we cant pick up a decent wr how about going for a surehanded TE ? - bring back the shockey/olsen game.  If olsen gets hurt this team is truly screwed

Not so sure we need more TEs.  Dickson I think is solid as a receiver.  He was asked to block alot last year in tolbert's absence and given our dreadful O Line which explains his poor stats.

Simonson has been playing well.

How is Brandon Williams in catching?  I've been viewing him as one likely to get cut since he's been out with an injury all year, but if he can catch, he certainly might make it...

Marcus Lucas is being switched from WR to TE and seems to be playing ok...

    • First of all the out was not caught because XL slipped and was the only person who could have caught that ball.  I'm not sure where you get that it was almost intercepted but go ahead and believe your story. The kick was in the direction we wanted the ball from the opening kickoff.  Do you think Fitzpatrick didn't try several kicks in that direction before the game and after half?  Do you think we just winged it.  Come on, OK so he missed one earlier.  Kickers can't adjust.  You make it sound like it was a wing and a pray. I saw the game.  Yes and we still got 21 yard from the running game.  We also got two first downs via that pass.  So it isn't like it was 100% we were going to run.   You have your blinders on and hate BY so much that you can't give him any credit because it defeats your narrative that he completely sucks.   What I have yet to here is you 100% for sure solution.  Which QB are you going to bring in that GUARANTEES that he'll be better than BY.  See the difference between you and me is I understand that he isn't the greatest QB to play the game.   But he has strengths and he continues to win whether you like it or not.  You and I have been on this forum for many years and agreed and disagreed on many topics.  I don't think I have ever seen you so filled with so much hatred for a player than BY.   I'm just going to leave it here to agree to disagree because you aren't going to change my outlook and I definitely am not going to change yours.  I do appreciate no personal attacks.  Someone said it earlier.  Ride with our game manager until a Mahomes falls into our laps.
    • It's not the only issue. She said it was the "biggest" issue. lol
    • The key difference being expectation. Jake was basically an afterthought of a free agent signing. Bryce is a guy we mortgaged the franchise on to be THE GUY. Not to mention a different era of football before all the rule changes to benefit the passing game. I don't care how we win either. I just realize that the odds of continuing to win in today's NFL with this level of QB play are very low. If I knew for sure that the Panthers had already decided to pursue other options at QB this off-season I could breathe a sigh of relief but of course they're not going to say that publicly.
