Norwood will prove to be an excellent addition

top dawg

He did catch with his hands like a boss but we may need to slow our roll just a bit.  You guys gonna be OK if he doesn't make it through cuts?  Just sayin'.

The receiver made an impression upon Proehl last year when being worked out. Ron and especially Dave have said how smart Norwood is, and he is being taught all the positions.  There is absolutely no way that Norwood is going to be cut. Gettleman didn't trade for a guy on Tuesday to check him out for a couple of days just to cut him. Gman and company saw something in Norwood, and a lot of us saw something tonight.

Gettleman has proven that he will use draft picks as trade bait in order to move up and take a player that he values. That isn't necessarily throwing them away, and is certainly not throwing them away from his perspective.  He gambled on a low round draft pick (some people here are saying a 7th) because he feels very strongly that Norwood offers great value and has skills that we need. Gettleman makes moves that are well-thought-out, not moves out of desperation. I don't believe that he is just kicking the tires on this one.

That isn't necessarily throwing them away, and is certainly not throwing them away from his perspective.  He gave up (as of now) an undisclosed draft pick in order to acquire Norwood before he hit the market. That, in and of itself, should tell you that he feels very strongly that Norwood offers great value and has skills that we need. Gettleman makes moves that are well-thought-out, not moves out of desperation.

I agree with you that there's no way we're cutting him and that we're extremely high on him, BUT if we cut him we wouldn't have traded anything. It's a conditional pick, and we obviously don't know the conditions but I guarantee you they get nothing if we cut him during final cuts. Not happening, but just saying we wouldn't be giving away a draft pick.

Saw Norwood have a nice downfield block on a big run too.

Just watched the game again, and his catches were great, but I was even more impressed with his blocking. He had many of them resulting in extra yards! Go watch the tape again if you can and enjoy it.

Strong, reliable hands, attacks the ball, great blocks - this guy is a perfect Panther WR fit.

Yeah, yeah preseason i know - but add to it, that he doesn't fully know our playbook yet. This dude is good...

With the likely top three names on the depth chart being Funchess, Ginn, and Cotchery. There is no reason why Norwood couldn't land fourth on the depth chart, since his competition hasn't really stood out this preseason as anything above average. And over the course of the season he could be a productive option. Good route runner, good hands, and a good blocker. The kids talented and hopefully he makes the roster.

Thank you for saying it. He doesn't cost us anything if we cut him. Not saying we will but we are free and clear from the trade if he doesn't make the roster.

At least that's my understanding of conditional picks. And I read that it was a confirmed 7th round conditional in 2017.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
